I would do it again, absolutely.

I had a stricture at about 3 months out, fixed by endoscopy and the repair the surgeon did during that procedure. No fuurther problems.

I feel great, eat well, exercise, have a whole new life. Fabulous personal decision that I made.

I will mention, though, that the first couple of months I had good days when the pouch was fine, and bad days when the pouch thought I ate too much or too little (nausea). After that, and the endoscopy at the end of month 3, I have been doing very well, and am very happy.

I would do it again in a heart beat!!!! I'm almost 16 months out now, and I've been relatively complication free. In the beginning I had some nerve issues with my right leg. Apparently the nerve that goes over the hip got compressed during surgery, so I had shooting pain and tingling off and on for about 5 months. The only other issue I've had is my iron level. Sometimes its normal, some times its so low I have to be on supplements, of course I had that problem before surgery, so I don't think I can count it as a surgery complication.

I had a problem free suregry...but then at about 6 weeks out I had a stricture. It got real bad because it took a while to diagnose/resolve, so I had extreme vommitting and nausea which made me very very ill for about 4weeks...which was followed by a 5 week plateau. Now things are completely fine and I can eat a large variety of foods with few restrictions.

I feel great about the weight I have lost and the ability to buy new clothes. My skin looks real bad....I have been overweight my entire life so all elasticity is gone.

As for whether or not I'd do it again...I'd like to say yes...but frankly I still worry about my long-term nourishment/health and the ability to be insured as a GB patient. I know at the higher weight my health would have been an issue...I had bad joint pain which is way better now...so...I guess my answer is...jury is still out.

Cool My Reasons

Thanks for your replys.Great job on reaching your goal Claire!!Ok first of all what the heck is a stricture?I have been seeing it alot and nobody has explained. These are my reasons for wanting gbs.

1 .baby girl 14 months old.I want to be around for her and dont want to be an embarrsment to her as she grows.
2. Be able to be healthy and active
3. Be able to wear seatbelts and fit in normal chairs with arms.
4.Be on top in bed and truly satisfy my husbands fantasy(:
5.Shop at GAP!!!!
6.Feel really good.
7.Stop pain in my legs and feet.
8.Set a good example.

So what do you think good enough reasons?

I have been heavy all my life until I was about 17 and then i got down to 190 pounds which is my lowest ever. Then I got up to about 265 and stayed that until i got preggy. Then i was 310 when i delivered my baby. Now at 400 I feel miserable and I cant wait to have my surgery.I just love this forum. Thanks for being so awesome and always listening to me and giving great advice.

I'd do it again in a second! It was the best decision I've made (other than marrying my wonderful husband!) I had a complication 2 days after my surgery - my intenstines "fell asleep" and I was vomiting green stomach bile nonstop for 24 hours. They ended up taking me back into surgery to fix the problem. Ever since, I've been problem free. It's been 9 months and I'm down 145 lbs and still losing! I had a great life before surgery, but the quality of life is so much better now that I have more energy and am off all of my blood pressure meds!
