Nationalities Of Tt Forum Members?
The Forum has recently expanded to include International sub-sections and I'm curious of what nationalities we have on board TTF? How many of us live in a different country than our nationality? What are the nationalities of our significant other? I am dual national Swedish and Swiss and live in the UK with my British husband (our 3 children are dual national British & Swiss). I had my RNY in Belgium (5th December 07)...
Other than the US and UK I have seen Canada, Norway, The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland...
I look forward to hearing from you!
Cheers!

My wife is British but we live in the US. (She's from Peterborough, England and moved her when she was an infant. ) I'm from NC, but my wife and I currently live in Buffalo, New York. It's kind of like a foreign country to me!

I am British and emmigrated to Canada in 1998 with the hub and 2 babies! We spent a year travelling in 1992 and spent most of our time in Canada and worked on a wildlife reserve, it got us hooked on Canada and so we applied, moved and have never looked back.

Hmmm, I'm American, but I have a long line of Swedish ancestors. Also English and Welsh plus a tad bit of Irish. My maiden name is Smith and they started out in Prussia as Schmidt. I haven't traced back that name yet.

I'm British, married to an American and now live in the US.
In honesty, I've found it difficult living here - so very different to my village life back home.

Thank you Mike, Sam, Teri and Corrine!
What diverse and interesting backgrounds! I am a genealogist and am fascinated by how we live - considering our genetic predisposition, usually climate related. The Mediterranean diet uses very little dairy produce and before the advent on international travel our bodies were adapted to the local conditions. As a Swede, my body thrives in the cold winter and cool summers and luckily living in the UK is not too different...
Corrine, do you ever come "home" - where is that? Shropshire, Somerset, Norfolk...? I live in a tiny Oxfordshire village (where Wind in the Willows was written) and London...
Teri, if you are keen to look up your European heritage, log onto www.ancestry.com!
Cheers!

Hi Corrine!
I'm sorry to hear that you found it difficult. If you want to read something fun, pick up a book (or better yet, get the audio book) "I'm a stranger here myself" by Bill Bryson. He is one of my favorite authors. He was born in the US, but moved to England, got married and had children. They moved back to the US and the book is a series of short articles he wrote about the differences and similarities... well,... mostly the differences.
I like the audio book because I like his Iowa/British sounding voice. I believe he and his family returned to England a few years ago. I think you might like it!
Merry Christmas!
-Mike-

During the first couple of years, I went home 2 or 3 times a year but that made me even more homesick.
My home was just outside Oxford.

Thank you Mike - I'm searching the book as we speak.
The differences go way deeper than I could ever have imagined.
ETA - just ordered a used copy of that book from Amazon. $1.99! lol Shipping was only $3.99 - that's a pretty good deal. Thank you Mike!

Mike, Corrine!
Thanks Mike for the wonderful recommendation - isn't Bryson just the perfect suggestion for Corrine?! Corrine, I'm sure you'll genuinely laugh out loud! Chin up!
I'm in Blewbury, between Wallingford and Wantage... Good to have a contact from my neck of the woods!
Cheers!
