Default Songs that are meaningful for WLS

This is a goofy thread, but I often interpret song lyrics to fit my own life. Lately WLS has been on my mind, and I've found meaning in a lot of songs. I'd be curious to know if any of you have songs, quotes, etc. that have held meaning for your WLS journey.

I don't particularly like the band Staind, but the song It's Been Awhile has a particular impact on me.

Quote:
And it's been awhile
Since I could hold my head up high
And it's been awhile since I first saw you
And it's been awhile since I could stand on my own two feet again
And it's been awhile since I could call you

And everything I can't remember
As ****ed up as it all may seem
The consequences that I've rendered
I've stretched myself beyond my means

It's been awhile
Since I can say that I wasn't addicted
And it's been awhile since I can say I love myself as well and
And it's been awhile since I've gone and ****ed things up just like I always do
And it's been awhile but all that **** seems to disappear when I'm with you

And everything I can't remember
As ****ed up as it all may seem
The consequences that I've rendered
I've gone and ****ed things up again

Why must I feel this way?
Just make this go away
Just one more peaceful day

And it's been awhile
Since I could look at myself straight
And it's been awhile since I said I'm sorry
And it's been awhile since I've seen the way the candles light your face
And it's been awhile but I can still remember just the way you taste

And everything I can't remember
As ****ed up as it all may seem to be
I know it's me
I cannot blame this on my father
He did the best he could for me

And it's been awhile
Since I could hold my head up high
And it's been awhile since I said I'm sorry

There is another thread about this somewhere, but I like this topic, so I am reposting my reply. As I approached WLS, the song: "Out of my way" by Seether really got me determined. (You have to crank it up though!) I still use it when working out.

It kind of sumed up how I feel about people who are trying to talk me out of the WLS and my determination to change my life. Here are the lyrics....

Out of my way
Out of my, way

[Pre-Chorus]
I can’t pass up this opportunity to make myself absurd,
I can’t pass up this opportunity to let myself be heard.
Would you, like to, be the one who sees me lose this all,
Would you, like to, be the one who sees me fall.

[Chorus]
Nobody’s gonna stand in my way
Give it up son, I’m doin’ this my way
Nobody’s gonna stand in my way
Give it up son, I’m doin’ this my way

You like to think the worst is over now, but you cant breathe at all
You like to think you’re owed a favor now, man you’ve seen it all

Did you, want to, be the one who pushed me off the wall,
Did you, want to, be the one who let me fall.

[Chorus]
Nobody’s gonna stand in my way
Give it up son, I’m doin’ this my way
Nobody’s gonna stand in my way
Give it up son, I’m doin’ this my way

You can’t hold me down..
You can’t hold me down..
You can’t hold me down..
You can’t hold me down..

[Pre-Chorus]

[Chorus]
Nobody’s gonna stand in my way
Give it up son, I’m doin’ this my way
Nobody’s gonna stand in my way
Give it up son, I’m doin’ this my way

Nobody’s gonna stand in my way
Give it up, I’m doin’ this my way
Nobody’s gonna stand in my way
Give it up, I’m doin’ this my way
Out of my way

That's a great one, Squishy. I am going to check out that song.

Another one for me, that's a little more cheesy maybe, is First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes

Quote:
This is the first day of my life
Swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain
Suddenly everything changed
They're spreadin' blankets on the beach

Yours is the first face that I saw
Think I was blind before I met you
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I've been
But I know where I want to go
So I thought I'd let you know
That these things take forever
I especially am slow
But I realized that I need you
And I wondered if I could come home

I remember the time you drove all night
Just to meet me in the morning
And I thought it was strange
You said everything changed
You felt as if you'd just woke up
And you said,
This is the first day of my life,
Glad I didn't die before I met you
But now I don't care I could go anywhere with you
And I'd probably be happy.

So if you wanna be with me
With these things there's no telling
We'll just have to wait and see
But I'd rather be working for a paycheck
Than waiting to win the lottery

Besides maybe this time it's different
I mean I really think you'll like me...
Here's a link to the video on YouTube. It's pretty good.

I use a lot of music with my students at school. I read a lot of books on academic related brain research and music is SO GOOD for motivation! It engages positive emotions and positive emotions keep us engaged for learning, for exercising, and for being happy with life.

That said, there are a lot of songs that pick me up and make me feel better, but I've been particularly listening to George Michael's "Freedom '90." The lyrics seem to fit what my journey has been so far especially in relation to the support from this forum: "I will not let you down, I will not give you up...It's time to get me some happy..."

Additionally, when I've been going to the gym the following songs are really keeping me in an up mood:

"Sexyback" by Justin Timberlake
"Gitty Up" by Salt N Pepa
"Music" by Madonna
"Stronger" by Kanye West
"Continental" by Prince (anything by Prince really...I'm a product of the 80's!)
"Miss You Much" by Janet Jackson
"Hey Mama" Black Eyed Peas
"Fergalicious" by Fergie
"Professional Widow Remix" by Tori Amos
The Entire new Timbaland Album - it's incredible! (Especially "The Way I Are")

The power of music is awesome! Great thread!
