Beth - the mentor idea is terrific...and works well. Sort of like having an angel for real-life guidance. Good job!!

Des, no I'm sure it isn't like that in every bariatric practice. I really don't know what the deal is. It seemed to be a policy that MMPC had. My surgeon's office is part of the MMPC organization and has to abide by their rules. I couldn't really seem to get a straight answer from MMPC ("it is just for the best.") when they interviewed me for the RN position but as soon as they heard that I was looking for a position in the surgeon's office that did my surgery they honestly just stopped the interview right there. I didn't really even have a chance. I still don't get it at all, but I'm not giving up on my dream. There are only 2 bariatric practices in the area so its pretty limited. I just plan on keeping my name heard in my surgeon's practice....who knows maybe one day they will figure I'm far enough out post-op that they won't really view me as a patient.

Thanks Whit...yeah, I know from personal experience that it works well. My friend Judy (Luna Lurker) and I happen to meet just as she was starting the whole process of getting approved for the surgery. We would go to support group together, I was able to answer her questions (we had the same surgeon), I visited her the night of her surgery and we have traveled this journey together for over a year. It has been a great experience for both of us and is what gave me the idea in the first place. I honestly hope that they implement this. I think it would be such a wonderful experience for all involved.
