Also, if you're reacting to regular cheese, you may not be reacting to the milk per se, but the milkfat, if the milk you were drinking was regular and not lowfat or skim. A lot of people have bad reactions to fats after the surgery. Most string cheese is made from lower fat cheeses.
It was Skim milk that I was reacting to. I tried Lactaid and Hated it as well as soy milk. I talkes to my dieticien and she said give it a couple weeks and try it again. Some people can't tolerate milk until 6 mos. out. I am only 6 weeks out so its try it and if it works then put on the I can have list if it doesn't then I can't have it. How much cofee can I have in a day? Thats my new addiction. I can't seem to get enough Cofee. Its funny because I used to hate cofee and know I love it.

Actually I think the reason milk is not good and cheese is has to do with the way it's processed. I cna't drink regular milk but if it's in a latte or heated to 150 degrees first it sits just fine.

Cheese is a a good thing... i htink the enzymes change as it's processed...

Taht's my school of thought. I did notice i can eat blue bunny surgar free ice cream and yogurt which I coudn't eat for over a year.... just the last week they are okay again

I grew up loving a good glass of milk, and in my 20's I couldn't drink it anymore. Then I had bypass surgery and I tried it including the powdered milk, and was on the extreme side of intolerant. Now after reversal I can drink whole milk without any issues, and in fact I get a good portion of my protein in that way right now. Plus I also do eat the string cheese, but I'm not extremely fond of it. Janie

Default I became lactose intolerant also.

Hi,

I became lactose intolerant also. I switched to Lactade. It has added calcium also (which I needed) and it works just like real milk. I use it for everything.
I am almost 2 years out and still use it. I find I can now tolerate real milk products in small doses but just to be sure I keep it to a minimum.
Lactade works great for protean shakes.
I have lost a total of 185 lbs and have leveled out. I am going to stay where I am.
Good luck on your journey.
Tim
