Awaiting Insurance approval
I have been reading posts for the last 2 weeks to gather all the info and be as prepared as I can for surgery. My file was faxed for approval to the insurance company on 3/2. Yea. I am excited and scared, a bittersweet kind of experience. I will be with Dr. C and doing a lap procedure. I have a question as to how long the recovery time is? I am planning to be off work 2 - 3 weeks. Is it enough?
I want to thank you all for your candid offering of info. It is very helpful for a newbie to learn from other's experience.

Connie,
Welcome to the forum, we're glad you're here.
Recovery. I went back to work, to a sit down most of the time job, after three weeks. I wish I had taken at least one more week off. You've got 6, consider taking 6 weeks. You should feel good around 2 1/2 weeks, but don't rush it.
Congratulations! You're in good hands.

Time off
I have a very sedentary job also. I took only a week off, wish I would have taken 6. If you can afford the 6 weeks off do it, take care and pamper YOU! Its a hard thing to do, but put you first.

Time Off
I have a desk job also.. (hence the fact that I am on the forum all day long.. lol) Anyway my boss was and still is a jerk.. after I was out for a week he asked me if I was coming back on Monday or if they needed to put an ad in the paper. Well, of course if I had known then what I know now I would have told him to put an ad in the paper and see me in court. It is totally illegal what they did, threatening my job while I was on disability.. but they did it because they know I can be kicked around and still show up for work. Well to make a long story short, I took a week and a half off after being opened twice. Once on my Surgery Date and had to be rushed back to the OR the next day and was opened again. I would have taken the full 6 weeks off if I could have. I am preparing for plastic surgery now and you can bet your sweet butt I am taking the FULL TIME OFF allowed by the state disability act. If they have a problem with that.. they can cut my final check.. I don't care anymore. I am through!! And they know it!!
It's good to finally have a voice again. Sorry didn't meant to rant.. as you can tell I hate my job and I will be so happy to finally leave it. You can't imagine how happy I will be. Moral of the story, take as much time as you need and don't worry about your job.. they CAN function without you.

Work
I also have pretty much a desk job, at certain times I have to walk all over the place, but nothing horrible. I went back to work 2 1/2 weeks after. I'm glad that I did. I was getting in a slump, and i think I would still be on the couch if I waited any longer. I was however extremely tired when I got home, so I would take a little nap then get up eat dinner do what ever else I needed to do then I would go back to bed.
Your body will let you know if you try to go back to soon!! California law states that someone has 12 weeks of FMLA (family medical leave of absence).
That means your job is protected for 12 weeks. So if you can afford it take all the time you need.

Man, your boss really *does* suck! You're not kiddin' about him bein' the source of physical problems. Bad work relationships can have such an impact on our physical well-being! My wife and I doctor resumes, so let us know if you'd like some feedback and/or assistance.
I'm glad you've found your voice again - stay strong and keep your eye on the want ads!
Man, why do people have to suck?

Hi Connie,
Welcome to the group. And welcome to the other side. I was out of work for 16 months before surgery, and prior to that was about to die every time I went to work. I have a strenuous job, and stressful. I sometimes have to assist 300 pound patients, I have to push beds, lift monitors, and walk or run most of my 12 hour shifts.
I went to work at my old job 2 1/2 months post op. I was there about 8 hours before I was in alot of pain, and as it turned out, they were overstaffed and I was sent home. I was thankful for that. I had that pain for quite some time, and ended up taking another month off. It ended up being an ulcer though, and not job related. These posts say it all, take all the time you can, the longer you take the better you will feel. Trying new foods at work can also present a problem. I learned not to put anything foreign in my mouth at work, for fear, nausea, bad enough to have to lay down, and I just can't do that on my job.
Collect your disability, and do something with your spare time to take your mind off wanting to go back to work, especially if you have a physical job like I do.
Disability paid me well, I enjoyed it!.
Hugs,
Traci

I am so worried and excited about my own surgery. Being there is so much I need to do, but i hold a greater respect for you people, in Canada i do not have to worry about the insurance to be approved for the surgury it is all decided by the Doctor he says if you need it or not. The extra wieght of the insurance company must be overwelming. Hats of to all of you.

If you went to insurance on 3/2 you should hear something any day now.

Connie~
I regret not taking off the 6 weeks. I went back to work too early and was dragging. I have a desk job and it wore me out. If you can do the 6 weeks, take it.
