Default pseudotumor cerebri

Is anyone familiar with this diagnoses? I have been dealing with this for over a year now. I have headaches everyday that end up with me in bed sick. I have pressure in my ears and over the year documented vision loss. Also I get black spots in my vision and light headed. I am waiting to hear if the ins. will waive the 12 months so that I can move on with wls. I feel like it is my only hope. I would do anything at this point to make the pain go away. My neurologist does not like to give pain meds for this and no other doc will give anything without his consent. He said wls or have a shunt put in my brain. So now it is a waiting game and I just don't feel well. Anyone with info on this I would love to hear from you.

There is another teenage girl in my Weight Loss Clinic with this (many girls actually), and the Program Cordinator said that they were able to "fast track" her because of it. They were able to get her in about two months ahead of schedule, but we're only required 6 months of diet. Did your neurologist put you on any meds...like Diamox? I have heard that it helps a little with the headaches. Hope you feel better.

Thanks for the reply. My neurologist did put me on diamox but there was something wrong with my lab work (kidney related) and they had to take me off of it. It also was causing me to be short of breath. They seem to think I can get fast tracked too. They have been waiting for my psych eval to be sent to them. How long does it take to have that paper work sent from one doc to the other. It has been almost 3 weeks and they work in the same building. I actually just got an email from my surgeons office asking me if I had a copy of the report. I replied nope but my check has cleared the bank LOL. I called the doc who did the eval and of course couldn't get any answers, they said they will look into it. I know that he gave the ok. He shook my hand and said good luck with the surgery and if I needed anything to let him know. Ugh frustrating.

Bariatric surgery is the long-term procedure of choice for severely obese patients with PTC and is shown to have a much higher rate of success than CSF–peritoneal shunting reported in the literature, as well as providing resolution of additional obesity comorbidity. Increased intraabdominal pressure associated with central obesity is the probable etiology of PTC, a condition that should no longer be considered idiopathic. Hope they get you taken care of and that your symptoms resolve with the weight loss as there are other causes of PTC as well.

My concern is how can they be certain that wls will help with PTC. Regardless I want wls, it would just be nice to know that I was taking care of PTC with the surgery. I get such bad mood swings from the headaches. I get for short with people and I feel horrible when it happens.

The only way to be sure is to lose the weight and find out!!! Would you have the surgery if you didn't have the PTC??

Absolutely! I am just a little worried that I will still be sick from PTC.

I too have ptc. I am working on getting lap band at this point. While My doctor says he has another patient he has treated and whose symptoms have gone, I was wondering if there was anyone else here who can say from experience if the weight loss did help.
I devloped ptc after having gone on one of those fad diets and loosing 56 lbs in a very quick time and putting it all back on when i stopped the special foods. Im just tired of allo the crap. I have two wonderful kids who deserve a mom who isnt tired all the time, has ptc symptoms, and my solider deserves a good looking gal to come home to. So any thoughts on this I would greatly appreciate.
