Tammy,
What everyone said is right... But your pregnant... You have insurance... you are the primary carrier. Fact of the matter is you need to decide if you can afford to pay for the delivery on your own. The new companis most likely will not cover you. Most companies have a three month period before offering insurance. If they hired you I'd be surprised since you will have a leave of absence within the year.
I too worked for an a-hole. He was rude and raised his voice and said inapropriate things. I tell you. I talked to my team mates and they agreed he had it out for me. No one knew why but he fealt that he could treat me so bad even in front of everyone. I finally told him, "It's obvious that you have a problem working with me. For what ever reason, you can't discuss things with me in a professional manner without getting frustrated. So, As a source of resolve I would like to take a step aside. I've spoken with my team and we have agreed it would be best for you to work directly with Jose' He has a much better repore with you and I'd be happy for you to take up all your concerns with him.". But he got really mad and said, "No! I want to work with you! And I'll ask and tell you anything I wish". Next he had a meeting with the entire team. Saying, "This is the way it is!..." bla bla bla.. I went home early that day, called in sick the next and monday happend to be a holiday so the Tuesday I returned I turned in my notice in writing and notorized. I never talked to him... I put it in his chair before he arrived for work. He didn't speek to me for 5 days and then said he checked with corp. and they said, if he needed me he should keep me for the 2 weeks. So I stayed my 2 weeks and on the day I left he and I did not cross paths. It's been since June. I've been home... I've not looked for another job because of the surgery I have scheduled. My co-workers said, he resigned after corp. Human Resouced recieve some emails concerning his being prejudice against blacks and women. So, he's gone... I could have waited it out! At the time I couldn't stand it anymore and had to do something. My nerves were shot... My teanage son was getting into trouble and it was the best solution I had. I miss the work, it was fun to work with my team.
No one should be treated the way you are. I've had boss's like that in the past. It's a power trip. By the way, he can't cover his son because he's 23... unless of course he's a full time student. Isn't that how it goes? I have a daughter that is 19 and she was rejected from the insurance company for that very reason. When it's your spouce that's different. He knows better, he's just spouting off at you.
About the joke...
If you stick it out for another 6 months, just to get the insurance to pay for the baby. If you hear him say clamidia one more time.. you should ask him what he thinks is funny about that. This is an insult about you as if to say bubba Ray gave it to you. I'd definetly tell him to stop. If it happens or anything else is said, Document who was there when it was said and to whome. Write everything down, exactly as it accured, how you fealt and what you did in response. You'll need that! Report it to H.R. and if you don't work for a corp. Get a lawyer... They'll probably take the case for free and you can watch him squirm... He'll not only stop but he'll appologize, He can't fire you and if he does he'll have a lawsuite so far up his .... he won't know what's commin'.

Unfortunately, he is the HR
I feel like I am really limited here. He is the HR. He is the owner, sole proprietor and executor of the business. There are only three of us in the office total. He doesnt answer to anyone but himself.
I have ethics issues too. I can currently hide the fact that I am pg. I am still hovering @ about 230 and have no visible signs of showing. I just feel unethical not being forth right and saying OOPS! I am 3 months pregnant!
I cant regret leaving my old job though, because I just found out that they are closing the sales dept which would have left me having to rely on COBRA 3 months prior to delivery. (at $800 per month)
Either way I am in a crappy benefits situation.
The more I talk about it the angrier I get. I think I have an in with the Kaiser call center which pays way more than I am earning now with *free* Kaiser benefits. This is a highly competitive job and I believe my 15 yrs of call center experience has my foot in the door.
Its temp to hire after 3 months. Do I just STFU and wait for perma hire and be like, oops...I am irregular and didnt know? Unethical but practical.
THOUGHTS?!

Owner/sole prop./HR, huh? There is one higher than him, and its called the California DOL (Department of Labor). Say the word pregnant, and you could possibly close his business in an ADA lawsuit. Tell him you are pregnant and if he is any type of business man at all, he will blanch when you tell him your circumstances and how you have felt you have been treated, and will probably give you lots of room then. Geez...could be the coffee kicking in or could be the circumstances, but I am shaking I am so angry for you!
This guy is lucky I am no longer in Cali - I'd be waiting at his office door to speak on your behalf and it wouldn't be pretty or ladylike
You know in your heart of hearts what to do. This guy is volotile and abusive, and his behavior will continue and only stop when he's called on his behavior, and if it takes the DOL, then thats what it takes.
I wish you the very best of luck, love. You do not deerve to be treated like this and deserve only the highest respect and highest degree of professionalism...don't settle for less.
I am concerned about your benefits though...only 3 in the office may not qualify you for Cobra, and wouldn't qualify you for FMLA (too small a work force). It may be time to get out, but see if you can get on with an employer with a smaller waiting period, and if you time it right it may be as little as 30 days. I wish I were there to "do the work for you"...you soooo don't need this in your early stages of pregnancy, honey.
Ok...I'm off my soapbox...

Most HMO's will still cover you as long as you've had prior insurance pregnant or not. A company can't not hire because your pregnant. I wouldn't tell them. hey some people don't find out until they are pretty far along anyways. You need to do what's best for you and your baby. Screw the boss, and find a new job then tell him you quit. Cobra might be expensive but it's better than no insurance at all. Good luck to you!

I would go to department of labor. You are in a hostile work environment. They may even make him pay your insurance until the baby is born.

Yep, get out of there fast. I wouldn't even bother to remind him that he needs a replacement - do you really need to do him any favours whatsoever? Find yourself another job and leave him as soon as you can. Personally, I'd also file a lawsuit on my way out the door - put the settlement toward your child's future education or something. The more you don't do, it will be the same for your replacement.
Take care of yourself and that baby!

Update:
I walked out today to go cash my pathetic paycheck (remember hes gouging me for pay back for my husbands benefits) and didn't come back.
Think he's figured it out yet?
My desk is empty.
All my work is filed/completed/shredded.
He hasnt called me...
