He told my husband its to soon to do the stretching of the opening. He needs to wait until I'm at 4 weeks out or a month from my surgery.( duckie and others I know that I originally said 6 weeks but my hubby informed last night that its at a month out.) Not sure why he has to wait but I'll call him today to find out.

argh. You really shouldn't have to wait. Your health depends on this.

Apparently I have not healed completly and there is a risk of a tear which could cause even bigger problems. So, he is being careful. What causes these anyway?

Thank you
I talked to the Doctor. Usually a stricture occurs between 4-12 weeks In my case it occured at the two week mark. Not sure why but it did. Therefore he has to wait to fix it. But like so many of you have said and as did my research once its fixed I will feel 100% better.
I want to thank you all for your concern and your advise. I am so glad that we a have site we can come to and share things . If I had not read past entries on strictures I would have thought it was normal and just let it be. But because so many of you have responded to other post I made a quick decision and its a decision that was a good one. So, thank you very much.

the reason I think he is stupid, is I have had many strictures, and first one was in the first 30 days. I think the whole risk factor of a tear is there no matter how far out you are. Janie

I had the start of my strictures at 2 weeks. The chance of a tear from the ballon is minimal if you have a good Gasteroenterologist doing the job who is WELL versed on GBP. My Surgeon wouldn't let just anyone do my scope for that very reason, they didn't want the new pouch anastemosis to tear. I tell ya what though, waiting another 2 weeks or so for it to heal is just crazy...they have got to have a Dr. around that can safely preform the proceedure. It's just an endoscope for heavens sake with a little balloon dilitation. If they go 1mm per every minute or two, the chance of a tear is minimal!! Plus, they don't have to open it to a full 15, if it's closed nearly tight, they can go 1/2 way one time and finish it up in two weeks with another stretch.
If you start vomiting up fluids as well...or can't even keep liquids down...SEE THEM ASAP!!! Dehydration at this stage is critical!!!!! Drink everything you can..as often as you can!!!!!!!!! I can't stress this enough as each time I ended up admitted it was because the stricture caused dehydration which was effecting my kidneys and liver!

I am so glad you are all worries and I will do all the above. He does his own repairs and his own EGD. He will not let just anyone touch me. I will seek medical care if I start to vomit again. I will keep you all updated on everything.
I do have a question what causes Strictures anyway? Its so furstrating that I have done well until know.

zen I read somewere that you had alot of strictures and I have a question. Did you notice that when you sat down and didn't move the nausea and vomitting ( i have not had in two days.) stop. I notice that I have a lot of gas too. Its a pain and its very frustrating.
