Default Surgeons goal versus your goal

Ok I have a question....does anyone have a different goal then your surgeons? Is yours lower then the surgeos and if so How did you compromise? My surgeon says he thinks 140 is good for me. I am only 5ft 2 and 140 is still considered over weight and I actually want in the normal range for the 1st time in 20 years, that would be 120....any input will be appreciated

I think you'll know when you get there... at least that's how I'm going to approach it... My dr. didn't "give me" a goal... asked what I was aiming for and asked why I picked that number... and checked the BMI charts, and said --- sounds good!

Just my way of looking at it!

You're doing great so far! How long ago did you have surgery?

My surgeon asked what my goal was, then went on to explain that they consider a loss of 85% to be a success. So, when I said I wanted to weigh 165, he said, okay 170-180 is good. I went back to see him around the time I was 180 and he asked if I was happy. I told him no, that I still had 20 pounds to go. Since then I've far surpassed both his and my goals.

My surgeon would not discuss a goal with me also. He told me we could discuss later but for now he wants me to focus on learning my new system.
I have read that a realistic goal for the results of WLS should be 70% of the amount you need to lose. In example if 200 lbs is what you need to lose to be a "healthy" BMI them a realistic goal after WLS should be 140lbs.

Anyone else heard this theory before?

My personal goal is 200, my WLS surgeon did not give me a goal (yet?) but I was talking with my family doctor and he said from patients he has seen before go through this and what he knows about it and myself, 170 would be a likely goal for me.

Me personal end goal is higher mainly for my own mind. If I start throwing smaller numbers at myself I think I may start to doubt if I could do it, so if I get to 200 I will probably lower it if I feel the need to, but right now I would be so excited to see 200.

My first smaller goal is 350 (trying to do pre-op), then 325, 300, 275, 250, 225. One goal at a time, that way I do not feel discouraged if I am not at the end goal in a specific amount of time, I am at least making other goals down the road and can feel proud of myself.

I just remembered this from the seminar: The team I'm working wants to get BMI's under 35... : ) That puts you out of the MO category... Low expectations? Maybe, but they've accomplished what they'd hoped for, sparing us from so many co-morbidities...

I've decided not to have a goal (nor scales in the house - both were a source of drama in the past).

My doctor didn't give me a goal weight....he did say when I was at 135 that I was fine......I got down to 115-120 (too dehydrated then)...and now adjusted to hover 120-125.
