CountDown
I have started my countdown, and it has nothing to do with GB or WLS or weight, etc.
It has to do with my grandson's Bar Mitzvah in Connecticut next month.
I have two grandsons, one is 16 and one will be 13 next month. They are the children of my younger daughter, Helene, in CT. (My older daughter, Debra, lives with my little granddaughter in Washington State).
My older grandson's name is Matthew. I never made it to Matthew's Bar Mitzvah 3 years ago. I was hospitalized along the way (we drove) in North Carolina (that's another whole long story), and had to turn around and come home. This was a devastating blow to my family (particularly my daughter), but I did get to see Matt's Bar Mitzvah via video, which I treasure.
Nicholas, the younger grandson, will have his Bar Mitzvah on October 6, and I will be leaving for CT (by plane this time!) 3 weeks from Tuesday. I am sooooo excited.
Anyone who is not familiar with a Bar Mitzvah, it is when a Jewish child reaches the age of 13 he/she becomes an adult in the eyes of Judaic principle, and takes on the moral responsibilities of an adult. (It is called a Bat Mitzvah if the child is female) It is a beautiful and very traditional ceremony, much of it in English, the rest in Hebrew. I am a participant in the ceremony.
There will be a rehearsal (and party), Friday evening services (and party), Saturday morning Bar Mitzvah (and luncheon - then whrley ball party), then party in the evening with adults, then Sunday brunch (Grandma's the hostess!).
Gosh, I don't feel like a grandma! But I sure do love being one!
And you don't have to read any further, but grandmas have brag rights -- Matthew (older boy) is a musical virtuoso who plays about 15 instruments WELL, and many more that he does not (so he says) play as well. He is focused on becoming a music teacher, either at the high school or college level. His dream is to go to Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts. Nicholas (the Bar Mitzvah) plays the piano extraordinary well, and while other children play video games "to relax," Nicholas plays classical music (with his eyes closed, head back, something to see). Both children beg their mother "just another five minutes, mom, PLEEEEEZE" when it comes to their music. Nick plays other instruments well, but is not focused on that as his career. He would like to be a film maker.
If I say any more about my gang, I will put you all in a deep sleep, so enough for now - just know that I am counting down - 3 weeks and 1.5 days to go!!!!! (until I leave Texas for CT). Yay!!!!

Good to see there other wonderful bragging doteful grams out there besides my Mom......You have no idea the emotions that come trying to boil out of your throat when you see the pride in her eyes or hear the pride in own Mom's voice when she talks about your "own" children! I wish I could be her grandchildren!! Heehee. Remember this: the wonderful babies we are raising are part of who we are....which at least in my case, and probably yours, are a product of wonderful parents... Congrats on the wonderul celebration. Hope you have a blast and I am sure your guys (and your daughter of course!) are going to be so proud that you can be there! Have fun!

Kelly, yes, I love to talk about my grandchildren -- and it IS great fun to see the traits of my children and my side of the family within my grandchildren!!
One of the things I love the most is when one of my daughters will say to me "Oh my goodness, I am hearing your voice come out of my mouth." This comment usually comes at a time when they are annoyed with their children (room is a mess, homework issues, etc.). And my daughters seem to handle these issues much as I did. I don't know if that's good or bad!!! LOL
And I know, for sure, that your mother has much to be proud of, too!
Counting down, counting down!

Not a Bit Surprised!
Claire, I'm not a bit surprised that your grandchildren are fabulous - it's in their genes!

20 days....counting down
Can't decide what to wear. I agonize over this. Keep changing my mind. I look so different in everything. I guess I will have to see what Glen thinks when I try stuff on. Don't have a lot, of course - my body is a work in progress. But I did get some cute things at the Hospice Boutique, for so little money. They all look new, brand names.
Got my airline e-ticket.
And I'm pretty sure that. sometime during my stay in CT, my daughter and I, along with her friend and mom, are going to NYC by train to see a show on Broadway. Not sure which one yet - I am not the organizer. Another element of fun! I love NYC and Broadway!!
