Ok, now I know who Jonathan Edwards is. He does have a great following in the US, for sure. You can probably find out more about his tours, book signings, shows, etc. on his website. I'm sure he has one.
If you like TV talk shows, etc., you might want to check out Fox.com, NBC.com, CBS.com, ABC.com, or google New York talk shows. You are far enough ahead that you may get to go to one of those, if you like them.
You are staying in a great location! You will be able to find out a lot of good shopping info from the concierge or front desk person.
Very important: Do not carry a purse while you are walking around NYC. Wear a money belt or conceal your important papers (passport, money, credit card(s) in a front pocket. It's similar to England's weather that time of year, so bring layers of clothing. Do not dress up.
I'm not sure what you are accustomed to as to shopping, but you will find lots of wonderful stores on Fifth Avenue and even on Broadway (they run parallel, big ones and boutiques. All fashion levels and prices. Wear good walking shoes, it's very difficult to get a cab in NYC.
Funny story: Last time i was there was last October, with my daughter and grandsons. I was in a wheelchair. We needed a cab. We attempted to hail one right on Broadway. Several stopped, asked where we were going, and then sped off (not far enough, I guess), and had no care or concern about a woman in a wheelchair. You get the good and the bad in NYC.
Take a carriage ride in Central Park (during the day). They put covers on you to keep you warm, and it is an unforgettable experience.
If you have time for a tour, the Grey Line is the best (my opinion). Their tour will include Ground Zero, where the the twin towers of the World Trade Center were - it is a very moving experience. Also, great shopping in, of all places, Chinatown. It is all cleaned up now, lots of vendors, cool and funky stuff.
Hope this helps. Can you tell I love NYC?
