HELP...Question about Child Custody/Spousal Support - ThinnerTimes

Hi Everyone,

Can any of you tell me what happens when you need to get divorced and have kids and can't afford a lawyer. How do you afford to live on your own...especially when you are in such debt???

Any info would be appreciated.

My friend was talking about a place that helps women in need. I know she just did an internet search on it. I will try to get ahold of her to see if she know's the name of the place. Sorry I know that wasn't much help.

Your county has a Family Law assistance Center that may be able to help you. I would start there.

All is fine with me, I am married to the greatest guy in the world. I am asking for my Sister, she has been miserable for YEARS and her hubby just FLIPPED out yesterday screaming at the entire family about how worthless they all are, etc., etc., etc....she thinks its FINALLY time to do something about it. When you go to the courthouse and get the paperwork to fill out, there are forms that ask for spousal support and child support. Processing a divorce CAN be done without a lawyer (I did without one for a long time), but if one party retains legal assistance, the other party is pretty much SOL unless they get one too. Her best bet is to have the courts determine the amounts of support she will get, rather then her and the husband try to settle on a figure.

Also, most courthouses offer a class once a week, or once a month or so on how to fill out the paper work. I still have the packet that details how the papers need to be filled out in regards to a California divorce. If you would like me to send them to you (assuming I brought them with rather than packed in storage), you're more than welcome to them.
