I've told a few people at work, including my supervisor, all good there. Also,I've told a select few of my friends and family and even though you tell them not to tell anyone,it always gets to the people you really didn't want knowing. My closest friend has the biggest mouth and no life,so there goes the beans. Also, when people know, they tend to be overprotective. For instance,I'm already getting,"now careful! Don't eat too much!" Or the classic,"Are you sure you're supposed to be eating that?" It's very annoying and I feel like I want to kept everything to myself. I guess that's where this fantastic board of people come in!

Default Set the stage

Today I actually set the stage at work for my weight loss. I work at a school and the summer session will be over with just before my surgery. No one at work knows.

So very casually I mentioned I was planning on going on a high protein, low-fat diet mainly made up of protein, vegies, and fruits. (true) I also told them I was going to give Curves a try. (true) So at least now they won't be totally shocked when I return to work for the next school year in Sept. (5 weeks out) hopefully a few pounds thinner!

Other than that...it's just my husband, medical people and my hairdresser know.

My responses to inquires from people will be truthful, diet, exercise, changing bad habits, etc.

Oh, and of course we ALL know who has had it here....maybe that's what makes it that much easier to keep it my little secret...because I can really open up here and pour my heart out and I know someone will respond without judging me.

I have told 3-4 close friends, and these friends would not tell. I usually tell everyone everything, but I live in a small town and did not want the housewives talking about me over coffee. I too say, I eat high protien, low carbs, more exercise, and have been meeting with a nutrionist to make better choices.....which is all true!!!! My son who is 13 and my daughter who is 10 dont even know.

I even had my gbp out of state so that I would not run into doctors and nurses that I know.

The good news is I am a slow loser (never thought I would say that) so people really have not pressured me. If I had started bigger and was a faster loser, I think I would have raised some eyebrows.

It is totally up to you, good luck with everything.

I made the choice to only tell a few people, husband, parents, brother and then my closest girlfriends. All were very supportive. Now I have lost a hundred plus pounds and people are really starting to notice and ask questions. I have told a few others whom I felt could benefit from the information and the rest I have said the same as those above and lifestyle changes I have made.

I think that keeping the secret may be a little more difficult on my husband, he really doesn't like secrets, and I didn't tell anyone in his family about it.

If someone point blank asks me I will be honest (well so far anyway).

Someone on here said something that made so much sense to me when I was trying to decide if I should tell or not. They said that you don't go around telling everyone when you have a pap or if you have an infection. This is just another medical issue, and doesn't really need to be shared with everyone. It is your own personal health and you are taking care of it!

Default A lot of Good Insight!!

I really like what you all have said....
like several of you have mentioned I am one of those people who tell everyone things....I like to talk...I couldn't help myself from telling when I was pregnant, etc....therefore it has been REALLY strange to NOT tell people about this. As a matter of fact...it feels kind of cool how in control of it I have been.

But I do think it would be too much explaining...and possibly risking being judged...and told what I should/shouldn't do...what I should be eating etc....told all of these horror stories, etc. I know some people would think..geez...she needed surgery to tackle this...can't she lose weight on her own...or think this is the easy way out...

So I think I am going to hold back...and if I need to divulge it later to certain individuals I will.
