Do not read this if you have issues with blood sucking insects or vomit...
You have been warned...
So DH takes son to see ratatouille (sp) and I ask my daughter, 3, if she'd like to do a bike ride. She is very excited - can't wait to ride in her trailer- and I'm psyched because I burn a heck of a lot more calories towing and extra 45 pounds.
So I get my bike out of the shed, put it on the car and feel this itchy sensation on my arm. I look and my arm is COVERED with the tiniest little insects I have ever seen. I can't see legs but they are moving all over me. I try to brush them off...they don't come off...I get the hose, they mostly don't spray off, though it helps. I start trying to smash them, they don't smash. I then decide theses are (I believe) tiny little tick nymphs. There are at least 200 on me. Then I notice they are on my legs too. I look - they're all over my bike. I hose down the bike, they do come off there, meanwhile, hosing down myself as much as possible. The only way to kill them is to smash them between my fingernails. After about 15 minutes, I figure I've gotten most of them off and get us into the car.
Driving along, finding more bugs, smashing them, trying not to drive off the road. Daughter yells up - "Mommy, my tummy hurts" She just had a good dinner, so I figure she is just tired of the 20 minute drive.
We get there, get out, set up the trailer - I'm still smashing bugs. Daughter can't wait to get going, happy as a clam, so, Off we go. We go 3/4 of a mile and I hear the, "Mommy, my tummy hurts." and then the cough. I stop the bike - too late. She is throwing up all over the trailer. She is soaked, from her neck to her shoes. She is a total mess, crying, of course. The trailer is a total mess...And here I am, 3/4 of a mile from the car, still smashing these horrible little bugs.
Try to calm daughter down, bike back to car - clean her up as much as I can, thank goodness I had a full set of clothes for her. Had to change her in the middle of a parking lot, while shaking vomit off her shoes etc... -Shake out the trailer, drive home...still smashing bugs.
Home, get daughter settled in front of TV, deal with some more vomitting - ready with towels this time. Finally - go to bathroom - figure I've gotten all the little bugs by this point. Take off the bike shorts - guess what - little tick-like things like to hide under the bike shorts. This is not good. A new reason for a pannulectomy - can't find ticks under all this skin - and now they've moved on to my happy place. All I can say is that I hope my husband likes the "shaved" look - because I was freaking out and had to be sure there was nothing moving down there.
So now DH has returned, says these are not ticks, that they're moving too fast. Haven't told him about the shaving detail - he'll find out soon enough. Hey - one less thing to do before surgery, right??
I'm headed for a hot shower after I hose down the trailer and put all these towels and things into the washer.
Sum total of calories burned - 250...Not quite what I was hoping for today...
The funny thing is - I love being a mom - wouldn't trade today for anything. She is so sweet. Told me she was sorry she threw up. Poor little thing.
Hope you have better workouts this weekend!!
