DH (Danniboi) and I had the best vacation ever in Oahu. We went there for the Probowl a few years back and it was amazing! DH is from Colorado and it was the year John Elway was inducted. He still swears John Elway pointed right at him and gave the thumbs up sign.

We stayed at the Hawaii Prince Hotel at the end of the strip. The hotel and service were wonderful. In fact the view from our window was the place where the opening scene from Gilligan's Island was filmed.
The best day that we had, we took a rental car and drove away from Waikiki toward North Shore Beach. On the way out of town, we did the Dole Plantation. The pineapple was the best I had ever had and they sold some kind of nut oil that is great for your skin. Also, they have these magnificent trees outside of the plantation that look like they were tye-dyed. From there, we had a fabulous time just driving from beach to beach, watching the surfers and enjoying ourselves. We stopped at the Kua Aina sandwich shop for a burger (a North Shore Beach institution) and saw spectacular nature sights through-out the whole day.
The second best day we had was the day we went deep sea fishing. It was awesome. We even caught some Mahi Mahi. It was a day I will never forget.
If you are a shopper, and there on a Saturday, they have a HUGE flea market thingy that goes around the whole Aloha stadium on Saturday mornings. My friend who lived in Hawaii for years recommended it to me and I was so glad I went. The variety and prices on Souvenirs was much better here than anywhere else I saw. I'm usually a mall girl, but found this to be a great experience.
We did Pearl Harbor one day and it is overwhelming emotionally. In our case, and I think it was the week we went, it was frustrating because many of the participants did not show the proper respect.
The night life was fun and we really enjoyed ourselves at the Hilton Waikiki Village, the Aloha Tower Market Place, and downtown Waikiki. Of all things, we found a GREAt Irish bar with live music called Murphy's that we had a blast at.
We tried unusual foods, my favorite things were the Lychee sorbet and Guava BBQ sauce. Dan really enjoyed a strange kind of soup called Saimin. It reminded me vaguely of Pho soup.
I'm so jealous! We almost went back to Hawaii this year, but are taking a cruise in September instead. We'll be in San Juan for 3 days before the cruise and then will sail off to St. Thomas, Dominica, St. Lucia, Barbados, and Antigua. Remembering how much fun we had in Hawaii, I'm starting to second guess our plans.
