Telling our weight loss stories as a group is a cool thing, and I think what makes a really great story is Drs. Callery and Potts putting this forum together so that we can support each other, get solid information (that our docs would have to dispense to each and every one of us whenever we have a question) and how we have become an international family. At one point there was a tally of total weight loss, and I think it died at over 15000 lbs or so!
I think telling my story in respects to my complications could be "the other side" of how well it goes for most people. I can't really say if I would recommend the surgery or not--I'm still very debilitated from the complications I had at 1 year post op, but I've pretty much been the extreme of complications, so I don't think people should necessarily assume my stuff would happen to them. Do I think the surgery is a good way for MO peeps to help themselves? Absolutely! Should I have had the surgery? Probably not, but mostly because I swapped out all my comorbidities for complications. The sad fact is that even though I wear like a size 0-2 now and look like I'm on chemotherapy or something, I STILL get treated better than I did when I weighed 250lbs.
Pat, you honor me by including me in the group. Props to you, my man!

I think your idea is great! It would be nice to see something positive on Oprah on this subject.
Great job! And the view from the soapbox can be a lot better at times!

As for a success, I'm sorry, do you not see that smilling face in your Avatar?? I would say that qualifies you as a success!!

She is my success . It is time for mommie to reach her goal so I can teach my daughter a better way of life. Doesn't that smile just suck you in?

I say go for it too!! There are enough of us around the Country and abroad that post here and garner our primary support from this site, that we have an abundant amount of information. Heck, I'm only 2 1/2 hrs. from Chi. town...I would just go sit in the audience and cheer my stapler buddies on if need be!
Oh and Donna....even though you may not have had 'PRIME' results, your story is still important and meaningful. Not only do you show the scary side, but how people can have complications and STILL be positive about their lives. I know you get down and frustrated, but you have always been a strong advocate and a stronger yet spirit! The postive Karma you give off will pay off in the end, promise you!!

Zen,
Bless your heart, thank you for the kind words! The older I get, the more people tell me I am made of iron. I get sick, but I come back. Life hands me lemons and I make lemon meringue pie, lemon tarts AND lemonade. I was talking with Dr. Potts this morning and he said my recent inability to eat easily was probably mostly stress. I had told him about 2 "speed bumps" in my life, and he was shaking his head at the stress. If he only knew!! So I guess I am more resiliant than I gave myself credit for. Everyone's support of me and faith in me as well as the affection honestly makes me cry. I'm about to pull a "Sally Field" here--"You like me! You really like me!"

I can't tell you all how much it means to me to see this conversation going. I've been thinking about it for so long, and just think all of you are so amazing that you deserve to be on TV to tell this story!!
Donna ~ You are the original Wonder Woman. You were so supportive and informative when I had my emergency hernia repair, I can't even tell you how comforting it was to read your posts. I agree with Zen: you may not have had the storybook ending, but your strength of will throughout your trials is important and shows the commitment you have made to get on the road of health, no matter what.
Again - anyone who wants to get involved, please do! If anyone needs help writing, I'm happy to offer up my time. Heck, I'll even do a phone interview with anyone and write up a story for them if that's less scary

You need a hook
You don't need gore, but boring, happy, positive stories don't go far. You need a hook. Our hook could easily be how we've never met but have helped eachother throughout this process. The hook would be uniting us on the Oprah show - our cross country support group - tearful meetings - total pounds lost - cute outfits - nice panties...but I digress.
We would, of course, have to NOT reveal the web address of this forum or it will get so much attention, it will explode and lose its community nature.
The secondary hook is that this forum is how we succeed at GBP. How many of us can say, "I wouldn't be where I am now if it weren't for the forum." I know I can!! Support is a major factor in our weight-loss success. The by-product of our discussion is that GBP, though no picnic, is not rocket science. And of course, all our healthy (well mostly) outcomes are proof enough.
Good luck!

I can do this next week. I'm working tonight and then going to NYC for the weekend. Great idea. I agree with your "hook" idea Gina.
