Vitamin absorption
Ok guys....a question here. I really prefer not to have to do chewable or liquid vitamins.....althouth there is a chewable I can at least tolerate. But here is my question.....they make vitamins specifically to meet our needs in a form you swallow with liquids.....how do we absorb the fat soluable portion? I don't eat and drink together, and don't drink any beverages with fat. So, do these even work? How close to the vitamins do I need to have fat? Can I eat, wait the hour, then take them? Anyone know, or do I need to order the chewables?

I am not by any means a vitamin expert, but I thought about this question myself....so, I start with some "good" fats like omega 3 and 6s while drinking warm tea, I slowly then take my multivitamin and so far I've had great blood work although I'm not 2 years out yet. Some cod liver oil, flaxseed oil, borage oil and black currant oil rotate for my fat. They are all healthy oils. A freind of mine is not putting out major money she swallows the olive oil (bleeeaak!) out of a spoon. I prefer capsules fat is so disgusting now, It is amazing once you don't do majoe fat for awhile how "greasy" it is to you.
Hopefully our medical friends and or those who have worked with a dietician will set us straight. Thanks for bringing it up. 2 weeks till we leave for Cleveland. We will arrive late night on Sunday the 6th and Monday we will explore and then take my husband to the airport to fly home. Hope to see you there!

I, too, relax the eating/drinking for vitamins
Yep, like Beth, I take fish oil and flaxseed oil in the morning and in the evening with my vitamins. I take small sips of iced tea in order to get my vitamins down with my breakfast, which is usually low-fat cottage cheese and fruit, and generally eat one piece of string cheese with my vitamins and oils at night.
Any kind of pills upset Matilda if I don't take them with food, so it's the only time I relax the drinking while eating restriction. It's been successful for me so far, and like Beth, my labs have been spot-on all the way. Compromise can be good, in moderation, like everything else...

So, you think taking oil in capsule is good enough? I'd really prefer that to the chewable vitamins. I don't mind the ones from the bariatric site though. Maybe I could buy both and do whichever is easiest that day. Some days I tolerate swallowing better than others, and some days I can tolerate chewing the chewables better.

Yep, I could try that too....but I have a feeling that food, liquid, and pills won't be easily tolerated at a sitting. I can barely sip after a meal even when I lax it because I am excessively thirsty. But go figure.....pouchy allows me sugar and snacks.
