Default Doctors Try New Surgery for Gallbladder Removal

Doctors in New York have removed a woman’s gallbladder with instruments passed through her vagina, a technique they hope will cause less pain and scarring than the usual operation, and allow a quicker recovery. The technique can eliminate the need to cut through abdominal muscles, a major source of pain after surgery.

The operation was experimental, part of a study that is being done to find out whether people will fare better if abdominal surgery is performed through natural openings in the body rather than cuts in the belly. The surgery still requires cutting, through the wall of the vagina, stomach or colon, but doctors say it should hurt less because those tissues are far less sensitive than the abdominal muscles.

That is very interesting! And of course I hope it works to better the process! I have already had mine removed via lap. and that was not such a bad recovery time.

Default Just had it... think I prefer this way

I honestly don't know why the idea freaks me out, but it does. Had my gall bladder out 2 weeks ago Wednesday, have 4 cuts, three of them very, very tiny, and a 1-inch long vertical incision under my belly button. I've had almost no muscle pain or soreness from the incisions. I know this is probably less invasive, but if I were a guy I think I'd like it even less...

I'm in full agreement...I'd rather have abdominal discomfort because they went through my belly than through there!!!

Default No thanks

Cut me up doc. Lap, open - I don't care. It would be like going through your nose to operate on your ear.

So, it appears we don't like this idea, do we girls? Probably thought up by the same sensitive soul who decided the best way to check the ta-ta's is to squish them flat between two glass plates...

You know if it would keep me from opening up this capsule and ruining my little bid of food I get for the next 6 months - I'm thinking mmmm

(NAH) I will quit complaining, I don't want another surgery for at least a year when I get all tightened up after my HUGE weight loss (are you listening GOD?)
