Mary Pam is on a distinguished road
Default Have a revision myself

Hello, my name is Pam and I have just joined. I have stomach stapling and lap band 10 years ago and went from 275-160. I have kept the wieght off.

But now my band is closing off, and I am down to an all liquid diet and they are going to do a gastric bypass. It took me forever to find a dr that would do it because of the complications and high risk. I am very nervous and worried. The lap band was a huge success for me and I can eat sweets if I want, but going forward I am told that I will not be able to. Anybody else in this situation, where the lap band did work, but still having to go to a bypass?

Pam, you might want to post your question in a new thread so more people will see it. There are a quite a few people around here who have had a band and had it revised to a bypass, or who are waiting to get revised to a bypass, I think. It seems to be kind of common.

You mention that you were told that you would not be able to eat sweets after your bypass. Some people are not able to tolerate sugar after a gastric bypass. It can cause something called dumping syndrome, which makes you nauseous among other things. But not everyone dumps, so you might still be ble to tolerate sweets. I'm one who dumps, and I'm actually glad of it because if I could eat sweets, I probably would eat too many.
