Revisional Surgery
Hello all,
This is my first post. I am 8 years post-op and have had problems for about 4 years now. Finally, after numerous ER trips and doctor's visits, my doctors discovered the problem was with my first surgery and immediately scheduled a revision to my Roux-en-Y. I am concerned and scared more so than the first time. I have been told that there is a higher precentage of problems with revisional surgery as well as less weight loss. Can anyone in the community help me out with my concerns, please?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Can you tell us a little bit more about your issues? How much weight have you lost? Did you maintain that loss? What have your problems been?
I had WLS in 1988...it was a vertical banded gastroplasty. I was revised to RNY August of 2007 with no major issues. My surgery itself was several hours longer than planned because of scar tissue from the previous surgery. My weight loss has been very successful so far...I am below goal and I'm not having any problem maintaining that.

Goal! I did it!
111 pounds gone since my RNY
125 total pounds gone forever!
Maintaining within a few pounds up and down. 130 is my goal and I've been hovering a pound or two over it for months now.
BMI 22.3

I originally lost 100 pounds after surgery and maintained it for four years. Well I started becoming sick, experiencing nausea, vomiting and pain daily along with rapid weight gain. My doctor's did not know what was going, well after all this time they FINALLY found out what the problem is. It is the Roux limb. My doctor has to reposition the limb. I am due to have surgery December 15, 2008.

Revisions
Hi,
I am going to have a revision soon. Please continue to give details of what you are experiencing so that I will have some information on what to expect. Knowledge is power. What it difficult getting the insurance to approve

Will do. Stay on top of your insurance, don't give up. I tried three times until they approved it.

Revisions
Hi,
I haven't heard from you in a while. Today I was told that I have to see the head doctor. I did all of that when i had WLS in 2002. Why do I have to do it again?

I am so sorry. I had surgery the 15th and it was rough. I was in surgery 10 hours and I am relearning how to do all this again. However, to answer your question, I have no idea why you have to go to the psychologist agian. The only thing I can think of is if your revision is for regain of weight due to what they call overeating, then they may want to see if there is a problem. But if you want to talk to me my e-mail is futuredrugdoc@yahoo.com. My name is Iris. How is the process going for you?

I had a revision/repair of sort on 10/29/08, the reason mine was a little different then most, I dont want to duplicate a post, so here is my post:
7+ Years Post Horror Story
I had my RNY limbs re-done and lengthened, and my pouch physically relocated. So far so good.
