I went to my first WLS group meeting tonight sponsored by the group that is doing my surgery. I thought it was interesting that there were two girls in there that were both around three years out. They had their GB surgery performed by a doctor another town over... I think he has since left town... I have heard mixed reviews about him.. but either way..
They both mentioned that they just had "revisions". I was pretty confused. I am not really sure what a revision is? I thouight once you had GB there was nothing more they could do? Is a revision where the pouched got stretched so much that they had to make it smaller? Is that actually doable? Thanks in advance for your commentary. Jeff 329/320/220 |

Jeff,
I was told by a few that Reversals were actually Revisions. There are many different reasons for them, and they are a lot more common than you think. I'm sure you will get some feedback here. I'm on another email list that is a GBS complication list, and I'm amazed at the numbers that are needing to get major complications and problems fixed. Take care Janie |

I have also seen the word "revision" used when a patient has a prior WLS converted to a different system - as in vertical banded gastric bypass (VBG) to a RNY etc.

revisions can be done to bypass more intestine if need be, as well. A revision "fixes" what got "broken" in the original surgery.

In teh classical sense a "revision" is any work done to post GBS paitents. So if the pouch has stretched out, the stoma enlarged, bowel needs to be shortened or lengthend, Stoma strictured to the point that it cna't be opened by endo. There's also the point that former surgerys can be converted or reivse... like gastric stapling to RNY or LAPBand to RNY
Reversals are also sometimes classified as revisions but the technically they are what's called a "Take-down" ecasue you can never truely "reverse" the surgery. You can kind of put things back in thier place but htere will also always be soem difference in your anatomical make up once the surgery has been done. There some thougth out there to new procdures one is called Stomafyx the other is ROSE. in these procdure the doc can go in through the mouth and reduce the size of a stretched out pouch and stoma, aloowing once again for the "restrictive" part of our surgery to be functional. It's much less invasive than traditional method of going in throughthe belly, either Lap or Open surgery. Faster healing. My thought is if I have to go through this every couple of years... I might as well join wieght watchers....
