I totally understand how the pain can get ahead when we don't keep our meds on top of it, and I think your surgeon is an a$$hole for not respecting your pain. It's great that the Lortab kicked in and you are once again more comfortable, but it concerns me that you have change in pain. Dr. Slice n Dice needs to address more than just the pain of rearranging your plumbing, he's got to be capable of monitoring the actual function of the parts he put his hands on. Don't discount going to the ER just because you are having a little relief. There are meds they can give you to assist your IBS and provide you with relief. Glucagon calms the bowel down.

How are you eating, drinking? Perhaps an IV would bring some relief if you are starting to get dehydrated. Just throwing thoughts out there. I don't like the doctor's dismissive and shaming behavior and I don't like how your pain has escalated. Maybe you could get him out of the picture and work with a GI doc.

Keep letting us know what's going on--we're concerned and frankly, my shit alarms are going off all over the place. Big hugs to you, Love--you've been through some horrific times, and I bet you could use a good long snuggle while you cry out your fear and pain. I know I would.

Thanks Donna,

I didn't read this before I sent you that PM. I'm really scared and I'm calling my insurance company tomorrow to ask for a new surgeon to get transferred to immediately. This guy has shown zero compassion for me since the get go. If I don't feel much better by morning, my dad will be back in town tomorrow and can help me to get to the hospital. And somehow someway I want to stop this guy from doing any more surgeries.
His bedside manner and lack of human compassion are hidious! Janie

Janie,
I'm glad you've got the pain "under control" for now. It scares me that you were going to drive yourself to the ER. You are doing everything right at this point, being more pro-active for yourself than you probably have the energy for. I feel really badly that this continues to give you problems. If you still feel crappy tomorrow, let your dad take you to ER. I bow to Donna's expertise...she's AMAZING!

Lynda, thanks for your concern. I'm having a friend drive me to the hospital now, my pain keeps shooting up I'll let everyone know when I get home and I get this figured out. Janie

Question

Wow lady,Glad you are going to the ER.I just don't understand the problem with SOME Dr's and drugs.I have been given the run around a few times...well twice for my two surgeries...

WLS~DR told me I could have off for two weeks...Well at two weeks..I felt like a whale turd...when I asked to have a note to extend my time off..I swear he rolled his eyesMind you...I had 8 weeks from VS approved off.
I guess that is not drug related but still the Dr. not listening to me.

My Dental implants~OMG!!! Do you guys remember that?My Dr. didn't even wanna put me out for the tooth removing/jaw drilling surgeryand then said EX Tylenol would do it.Well you guys know..I waited 24 hours...23 too long and then told the Dr.I needed some drugs..She my DR, RELUCTANTLY wrote a script...but not before telling me,"You are the first person in my years to require a narcotic"...so yes you get the pain relief but I felt like a dumbass when I left....

I just don't understand why some Dr.s don't want to write a script for pain meds...20 pills can't make you an addict..can it?They are not responsible if we take it incorrectly...I guess I just don't get it.

Sorry for the rant but I hate seeing people go through it..been there myself.

Feel better soon

I just get plain pissed when I read this shit about doctors who won't medicate their patients. What is WRONG WITH THEM??? Anyway I spent all night at ER, and at least with three morphine shots I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. They found fluid on my cat scan, not sure if that can cause this kind of pain. They said I can have it removed at the doctors office today. YIPPEE.. I get to have more fun. But the doctor at ER did give me 15 percocets. So... I guess I"ll just be a collector of meds right now until I can find one who wants to make things right for someone who has suffered WAY more than anyone should ever have to in their entire life. Janie,
Did they say you had FREE fluid on your CT scan? If so, that is very very significant, and I can totally understand your pain. How are you going to follow up? Free fluid can indicate a perforated bowel, which is potentially fatal! And it hurts like an SOB. Do you have a temp at all? Peritonitis sets in pretty rapidly with a bowel perforation. I'm not trying to be an alarmist, and I would be thrilled to find out I'm totally barking up the wrong tree, it's just that that's one of the things that happened to me last October/November that nearly killed me. If this is the issue, you might as well stick those 15 percocet in your eye. My concern is that your surgeon has labeled you a "drug seeker" which would account for the piss poor response to your pain. Janie, I'm soooo sorry you're going through this. I noticed that your asshole dr has some pain docs on staff. If you have any choice at all, DO NOT go to one of them. It will just be more of the same.

It hasn't been too many years since doctors were required to take only ONE (1)!! class about pain. This country is positively midieval about pain. Not too long ago it was considered common knowledge that babies couldn't feel pain, and so if a newborn needed, for example, surgery to repair a heart defect, they were given NOTHING for pain!! At least they figured that one out--obviously those babies were just drug seekers.

I feel very fortunate to have found doctors who believe me and understand that if I don't have pain, I don't take the pill. Now, if I could just not feel the pain, we'd all be happy! If you can stand the drive down here, Dr. Carla Young with Sharp Memorial Hospital is an incredible doc, I've never met a doctor who listens and believes, and treats her patients with as much respect as she does. I think she'd be worth the drive, but I don't know what your insurance will allow. But enough about that....

Did any of these brain trusts at the ER tell you what to watch for? Like bloating, vomiting, difficulty breathing, fever, and raw, redhot, staggering pain? Those would all be symptoms of bowel perforation.

I'm very concerned for you, Sweetie. pm me if you want my phone number and we can talk by phone if you want. Always, always trust your gut feelings. If it feels serious, it most likely is.

Here is what the cat scan says :

Impression:
A sizeable fluid collection measuring approximately 3.2 x 3.3 cm seen in the anterior sucutaneous soft tissues of the abdomen noted in the midline abvove the level of umbilicus is suspicious for a seroma. an absess is felt less likely as I see no free air within this fluid.

Computed tomography of the pelvis was performed utilizing both intravenous and oral contrast. Multiple continguous 5-mm axial ct cuts were aquired from the level of the iliac crests through the ischium.

no free fluids is seen in the pelvis. The urinary bladder is moderately full but has normal contour. The uterus is absent. No ventral or inguinal hernia is seen. Bowel loops show no abnormal distention. The appendix is not clearly delineated although I see no focal inflammation in the lower abdominal mesentery. There are no unuusal adnexal mass lesions identified.

Calling Doctor Dyann...........yoohoo!

LOL I dunno what it all means. Hell if I died right now I would probably say thank god! I'm going back to bed I was up all night in that damn ER.

Default Good News

Ok after Paige and I putting our heads together and getting the run around, she mentioned something and I called my alternative health doctor who prescribes me well alternative meds. Anyway I talked to him and told him my situation and need a doctor to manage my pain until I can get off pain meds and he said he would do it. I have to self pay but it is worth it because he won't make me come in daily. It will cost me probably $300 total in office visits where my $35 co pay would apply each time I got bounced around so I figure it will equal out. I'm relieved... now I know I'm not going to lay around and be screaming in pain without anything to take it away! Janie
