Wow that's great news Janie - looks like things may be going your way for a change.
But I have to say that boss of yours is a complete ass and I would sue his but off if I was you!
Seriously though - congrats on making the right decision for you and your health. You deserve a good rest and some happiness!

Can you get disability if you quit befoer it went active? I know if they fire you after you had surgery you can sue thier pants off.... I did HR for many years and they are on very precarious ground..... you shoudl hav elet them fire you after saying you were going on disability...
you could live off that money for years...lol
Seriously though I'm just kidding I don't believe in the Sue-maina that has gripped Ca in particular but our country in general... but htat's a topic for a different forum....lol
Glad you are going ot get some time off to finsh healing
Really really glad the med is helpign and the pain is gone

Arrrrgh!
So typical to have a manager fire you for being sick. FAMLA was supposed to end that sort of thing.
I wonder about the disability thing, also, Janie. I also wonder about getting unemployment, since you were technically terminated. Terminated due to a health condition.....feeling like you needed to resign rather than face termination for requesting FAMLA leave.....
I'd definitely, DEF-IN-ATE-LY make an example of this pud manager of yours. He is SO treading in quicksand!
What field are you in, btw? It sounds like auto dealership loan closer stuff.
Jerk. I hope he has big nostrils, cuz you could have him paying right through the nose....

I somehow missed this post....and just read it beginning to end! Wow! What a freakin' nightmare! I can't believe after all you've been through that your doctor wouldn't give you pain meds! That is bullshit!! I have a mild case of degenerative disc disease, and recently had some neck issues on top of it, so my pcp gave me 60 Vicoden and a bottle of Lortab Elixer both with 3 refills! What the heck? Why is that doctor so unwilling to keep you pain free?? I just don't get that!! I'm glad things are looking up for you now. Sounds like you've turned the corner from what I read in the last couple pages of posts. Your boss sounds like an ass. When I had my surgery and complications I ended up being off for 2.5 months and they couldn't have been nicer! My docs came to see me every day (I work for a group of GI docs) and my boss brought me short term disability papers to fill out, and he even faxed them for me! They also donated pto hours for me!!! (120 hours paid). It's the reason I will never leave that job! They were so good to me....it touched me deeply! Well, I hope things continue to improve for you! Sorry you've had to go through all this. Take special care of yourself. xoxo

Janie, I just read all this thread, and and I am shocked about all what happened. In Switzerland physicians just DO NOT LET you in pain, pain is bringing more pain and can become chronic if not treated. Why they needed so long to find the colon spastic?
I am shocked. You are very very very courageous.
You have taken now the right decisions, cut off jobs/physicians from the past, and going to a new life. I am sure a lot more good things will happen, that was just the beginning. I wish you a quick recovery, and that all stays like a terrible nightmare, and a great new life. You deserve it and deserve to start to live again with pleasure.
All the best and I am all heart with you.

Update:
I have returned to disability, and it's in force again. That takes a huge load off my mind. I am having pain in left side still from spastic colon but not as severe as before the meds the GI doc gave me last week, it's obvious that certain foods cause me pain.. I'm not sure how I'm going to figure it out but maybe one food at a time. I feel like someone kicked me in the side really hard most of the time. A deep soreness. It appears like it's going to be either a juggling act for me to figure out the correct dose of meds, or perhaps just time to heal the colon, (I have to remember two months ago I had acid spilling into the colon and burning me) since it's been spasming now for nearly two yrs. I am still tired all the time, and I'm beginning to wonder since I'm seven weeks post op that it's due to the pain patch. I am going to go get some blood work done in the AM fasting and I'll see what gives maybe my labs will show. Doc is also testing thyroid. Have tried to go off the pain patches a couple of times and my body revolts every time. So for now I'm just going to accept that I have to live on pain meds for now, and my body is still a little broken down, but it will hopefully continue to heal. Janie

Wanted to update this because in a way this thread is almost like a diary for me. I am continuing to improve each day that passes. I still have a few challenges that need to be overcome. I am still on the pain patches for pain, and still taking nexium 1x a day now and still taking the levsin, strattera, for my ADD, hormones, I am having a lot of issues eating, and I think they are all in my head. I am having PTSD from being so sick for so long, and it keeps coming up, but I'm in therapy now and working on these emotional issues. I'm still having serious issues with my colon and I'm hoping that will get better sooner than later! I really want to be well and be able to function like I read a lot of you guys function. Holiday's are always hard for me and Thanksgiving is this week, and then Christmas is shortly behind. But one thing I know ... it will be Jan 1st before we know it. Janie

Janie, you are such an incredibly strong person! I'm so sorry the struggle is ongoing, but am so impressed by your courage in dealing with everything, including the constant pain in your left side. I hope your holidays are serene and pain-free and filled with love and support - you deserve a great Thanksgiving and Christmas!
