Default The decison has been made......

The doctor has finally said pretty much my only opton at this point is a take down of the GBS.

I have developed Hypoglycemia, along with the unexplained nausea, bypass that is too long causes numerous problems and and the adic production....

So it's either live with it or reverse. I'm choosing to reverse. Thanks to everyone for listening to me bitch moan and complain for the last 4 months!

I have two more tests to do before I set a date and the doctor is leaving that up to me to schedule. She will do another Upper GI and scope to make sure things are in place and looking healthy for re-attachment.

I've spoken with 5 other take down paitents and they are all happy with thier decision. One gained back all the weight the others are about 4 years out from reversal and gained back between 15 & 30 pounds of their lost weight.

I talked to the surgeon I'm working with right now, to see if she felt cofident that she could do a take down since she's only done 1 before and she said yes. She has done many revisions and it takes longer but essentially it's the same thing. She also said I have to understand she may get in there and there will be too much scar tissue to do anything. It's a risk I have to take. She's not going to reverse if it doesn't look like I have a healthy enough original stomach to attach back to.

Now I just have to set a date..... not ready to do that yet. I know it needs to be before the end of the year for insurance puposes but that's my only consideration. For today I'm living with the issues and praying that it will get better sooner....

So if you are a prayer please pray for me to know that right thing to do, for my surgeon to be able to work safely and have the wisdom to do what's best and that I find peace in my decision.... right now I don't have that and it's one of the main reasons I haven't scheduled.

My most healing thoughts are with you, Paige. I'm sorry it has come to this for you. You deserve to feel better than this, and you know we will all be behind you holding you up.

If it makes you feel any better, your doctor's name, Machado, is Portuguese, as is my Michelle. There is nothing like having a Portugee in your corner!

Paige, I am fairly new around here, but have already started following your posts with interest and concern. Prayers are with you and your doctor to see you through this. Luckily, you know you have an incredible network here - I'm so glad I found this place!

I'm not sorry to have it reversed... mostly scared sh*tless that I will end up worse!

I've learned a lot about food and my emotional attachment to it, what good eating looks like and also control. One thing the doc did say was that while the malabsorbtion will be gone the restricted eating will still be in place.... the way they reattach I will still have a small pouch at the end of the esphogus that empties into the larger stomach... so I will get full quickly and I just need to continue practiing restrain between meals.

Plus I'm hoping with my nutrition gettting better and havign more energy I'll be able to finally excersize more. That alone will keep me thin.

My daughter cried last night... said she is going to help me stay thin. She doesn't want me to get fat again or be unhealthy so she is going to support me by keeping me focused on the good eating habits I've developed and she uses as well now. We have been bike riding together and joined the gym this week... I'm also going to stop grazing now. I've been doing it for weeks to stop the wieght loss but it's time to go back to pouch rules and get in practice for having a larger belly.

In your prayers please pray for peace and acceptance for me.... I'm scared and I won't go forward until I'm comfortable that I'm makingthe right decison

Paige, I was off on vacation so I missed this thread. I'm sorry for what you have been through but in some way relieved that you have hopefully found an answer for yourself. You need quality of life and right now you don't have it. I know you must be scared. I would be too but it sounds as if you have a good surgeon and you have a forum family that cares about you. Let us know when your surgery is scheduled.

My thoughts and prayers are with you sweetie that you will find peace in your decision.

Thank you beth....

every day i get closer to scheduling the surgery. There is one more med I'm going to try from teh surgeon and then I'm done. I have an appointment with her on Sept 27th and if nothing else has changed I'll start the process that day.

She talked about another upper GI and scope before doign surgery but I've had 3 upper GI's so I think I'm goign to nix that idea. The scope however will be good to detiremin my pouch is ulcer free and ready to attach again. Cant do much about the original stomach.... no way to tell without a G-tube being inserted and my surgeon hates them... more trouble than they are worth accordign to her...lol She wrinkles her nose every time we talk about it.. it's rather amusing.

I've found a few ladies that have had reversals and are very supportive about it. They all are doing good since and most have kept the pounds off. That's a huge motivation for me. I plan to stay aroudn the board for support after surgery because I will still need to keep those pounds off! it will be even harder without the tool.

I'm still scared.... it's a huge choice to make... but I am getting more comfortable by the day so I'm happy about that.

Again thank you for hte support!

Hope this straightens things out for you! You sure have been to hell and back. It sounds like you are in a great frame of mind for keeping the weight off afterward.

I've been reading a lot of your posts the last couple of days--I'm new to the board and your pain & misery but also your strength and courage through ordeal is quite inspiring. I am praying that the reversal can be done and that you will be well.

I have read your posts with interest and great concern for you. It hurts my heart to know everything you've been through...I can only imagine the kind of physical and emotional pain you've been through after doing something that you thought was going to be a positive move in your life. I'm so sorry...

That being said, I'm glad that you're doing what you need to do in order to be healthy again. I hope that this decision is finally going to be the thing that gets you past this...You're in my thoughts.
