Default reversal of Roux-en-Y

Paige,

I want a reversal in the worst way. Can you share with me what changes have been made since your reversal surgery? Do you eat the same foods as you did before your surgery and did they make you sick at all? How long did it take you to heal after your surgery? Also cost? Is this something insurance covers?

Thanks,

Sandi

Default I guess I shoudl update this thread more frequently..

I haven't had a reversal yet. I'm currently 18 months post-op and in the last 2 months my body has settled dwon considerably. I still have issues but not to the extent that either my doc or I am willing to reverse at this time.

My hypoglecemia is under control with diet, the nausea and vomiting are under control with diet and drugs, I still have incredibaly low blood pressure but I'm careful and by eating a 2500+ calorie a day I"ve managed to gain 7 pounds since November. My all time low was 107 but I think that was a dehydration thing because it changed the next morning to 110. I stayed there for a 6 weeks and then around dec I started gaining. I backed down the calories to around 1800 when I hit 117 and I've stayed stable there for about 4 weeks now.

I still have some kind of internal hernia/scar tissue/stoma pain issues but again...not bad enough that I"m willing to be cut open again. It took 16 months last time for my digestive system to settle to something remotely close to 'normal" I'm not screwing with it unless I absolutely have to.

But enough about me...lets talk about you for a while...

Why do you want a reversal so badly? Your questions are interesting, you dont' mention anything "wrong" per se, just about eating after. Do you get sick everytime.... is it nausea sick or vommitting sick. What are the other issues you are having?

I need to be very clear about what a "reversal" means. Once this surgery has been done, they can not ever put it back together completely. I haven't met anyone yet that was 100% "normal" after a reversal or the more common name is a take down. They attempt to put things back together but once your stomach has been cut, it's been cut...theres no going back.

The ability to eat sugar without effect seems to be the biggest change after a take down, quantity is still very restricted. Also the pylorus valve and the duodenum(sp?) is back in play so your absorbation of vitamins is better. Messing with your system a 2nd time also runs the risk of vagus nerve damage...this is huge.

The biggest issue I see take down create is very uncomfortable bowel issues and the necessity of needing reglan for life becasue your stomach muscles no longer work.

Share with me a little more and possibly there are some solutions for you and/or I can direct you to a doc that does take downs.

paige just wanted to say i'm glad your doing much better. I was hoping that you really wouldnt "need" a reversal and that your doctors could get things under better control for you. Thank God! Hope you continue to improve and be healthy
