Default Plastic Surgery and Anemia

I thought I would sent out a little FYI because I wish I would have know this could happen because it did happen and it SUCKS!

I am 4 years out and 200 pounds down. I was scheduled to have a Arm lift, Implants, hernia repair and a T tummy tuck on 10-22-09. I went in for my pre op blood work the day before the operation was scheduled because they said my "levels were a little low". well after taking the test at 10:00am they called me at 5:00pm saying my test results had not improved and I couldn’t get everything done. I ended up just going in for Arms and boobs but the tummy was what I needed and wanted. ( arms and boobs look great! love it!)My iron level is 8.8 and normal is over 100. I sit here as I type getting a 7 hour long iron IV. it will take 30 to 45 days to get my levels up and I will probably have to have this IV 3 to 4 times a year!

Hope this saves a headache for someone! Get checked!

Thumbs down Awwwww

I'm so sorry that happened to you!! I know you have to be disappointed, to say the least. But I do appreciate you taking the time to post the warning for the rest of us. I have a TT and breast lift/aug scheduled for Dec 29th and my iron tests sometimes show I'm anemic, but it's not constant. I always take Slow Fe (1 pill daily). I wonder if I should up it now to two or three, spread throughout the day.

Hang in there, sweetie - you'll have that flat tummy in no time!!

They said they wouldn't do it if i was under 13 and I was at 8. I take Slow Fe 3 times a day and have for years. My body just does not hold on to it. I know that being anemic is a common problem with WLS people but now after discovering how low my levels are i didnt know how hard being anemic is on your body. I love that i lost 200 pounds so it is worth it.

I wish you the best!
