Default Plastics Question

I had my RNY Gastric Bypass in February 2009....I have lost 118 lbs so far. I am interested in getting Plastics done soon. Is that something someone who is almost 9 months Post-Op should consider at this time??

Mel.. get yourself healthy first before you even start thinking about plastics. You're not healthy, you know this.

And how close to goal are you? You should be at or close to goal approx six months before you consider plastics, according to my doctor.

Can I ask you something? You couldn't afford a stove for your house, but now you are looking into plastics?

Plastic surgery is not hand in hand with WLS, contrary to all the people that do get it. 99.9% of the time plastic surgery is not a medical necessity. I think you have your priorities a little of out whack here, sorry to say.

Based on your siggy, you're 258 lbs. I'm guessing you're another 100 lbs from plastics, but could be wrong depending on your height. I was told that not only do I have to get to my goal weight, but I'd have to maintain that weight before I could be considered for insurance approval. I'm not sure if you're exercising or not, but if you aren't start, it seems to help with skin issues.

What kind of preop consults and info were you given anyway? Because a lot of common sense stuff you ask was gone over with me pre surgery by my doc.

They usually say you should wait until you've met your goal and maintained it for at least six months before you consider plastics. But also, you should wait until your iron and platelets and everything is normal before you have any kind of surgery (unless it's some sort of emergency surgery that can't be put off, which plastics of course is not).

You shouldn't even be considering PS until you have reached your goal weight and maintained it for 8 month to a year. Once you reach goal, your body still needs months to settle in, there will still be shrinking and stretching of different areas as certain muscles grow and other areas weaken. I know quite a few people who now regret having had their plastic surgery too soon. The ones that wait seem to have a much better result and one that will last. Imagine how you'd feel rushing it. Then 6 months down the road you are all wiggly and jiggly and look as though you need a tummy tuck? Be patient. Tackle each goal in due time. Right now think only about reaching your goal weight and becoming the healthier brighter happier you, the restof it is just gravy.

It's not uncommon for people who start out very heavy to require some help with stuff like a hanging pannus well before getting to goal but that's purely for medical reasons and not cosmetic.

Mel - I'd agree with Kel. You can't consider plastics given your current health issues with iron and plateletes etc., and I don't think a surgeon would even entertain you with those problems anyway. The risk of bleeding is too high.

Mel,
I have to agree with what's been said above. I understand that you're excited-loosing 118 pds in 9 months is awesome. But look at what you're going through with your iron and platelets. You admitted that even though you were informed that your iron was low in March you didn't do your damndedst to ensure that it got taken care of. You instead ignored it (based upon previous posts from you-the liquid iron was on back order). I don't know where you had your surgery or what kind of pre op classes you had to go through, it sounds as if either you didn't have any or you just chose not to take to heart what was taught. Irregardless, the last thing you should be thinking about right now is plastics. You need to focus on getting your blood levels up to par and in order before you think of anything else. If you haven't done so, I suggest you get the book WLS for Dummies, or Before & After by Susan Maria Leach and you start reading up on what you've had done and how to take care of your body.

Sorry for my bluntness, but I think you have to get your head on straight and focus on your immediate health before you go wondering about other adventures down the road.
