Nancy...I really feel for you having to have another surgery so soon after your Gastric bypass, but I am sure you will feel much better when it is out.

Question on that same note...is it every possible to ask for them to take out the gallbladder while they do the Gastric bypass. I have been through so many surgeries. I really would like to make this one my last. I am scheduled for 7/21. I am thinking of asking my doc about it. What do you think?

Some doctors routinely take the gall bladder out when they do RNY. Some don't. Yours might if you ask. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Laurie,
Yes, it is a bummer to have another surgery so soon, but everyone says I will feel better.

I had asked my surgeon, Dr. Clark Warden, if he took out the gall bladder routinely with RNY surgery. He said no. He does offer free, 1-year complication follow-up surgery and the hospital (he owns it with other doctors) charges only $200.00. Since I was a cash-pay--insurance would not cover it-- this will actually be better than if I were to have it and have to pay the normal co-pay. I would have elected to have it removed during RNY surgery if it had been offered.

Good luck with your surgery. You will wish you had had it done years ago.

Thanks Nancy, I go for my preop visit this Wednesday, 7/15/09 so I will definitely ask the doctor about it and see if there is anyway to get it out during my surgery.
