Thanks for your replies everyone re: getting past the fear. I know you are all right, I won't see the blood, I think it was just the idea of what was being done while I was under and having seen it on tv. I know the result is going to be well worth it.
Now, I'm not sure where I'd have this done, whether it will be in Canada or the US. I did see an interesting website and wondered if anyone knew anything about this surgeon (Dr. Michael Bermant) and this surgery 'Tumescent Lower Body Lift':
Before and After Photos Female Lower Body Lift Surgery
I was looking at the 26 year old female, except for her age, we have very similar stats of weight loss and I swear my body is her 'before' body. I like her result - very impressive. I, of course, won't be considering any surgery til after my one year RNY anniversary but I am trying to do as much pre-research as possible so that when it comes to making a decision I have as much information as I can to make an informed choice.
Again, just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this particular surgery (I had not heard of it described as a tumescent LBL) or this surgeon?
Thanks again!

My
Tumescent Lower Body Lift is an operation I evolved to improve the comfort of my patients. Typical body lift surgery can be very painful. The literature and meetings on this topic filled with details how pain and discomfort requires narcotic on demand pumps, local anesthesia drain pumps, extended bed rest, and high risk of DVT from extended bed rest. This was also true for the Tummy Tuck patient. Liposuction patients are typically comfortable from the start. I first started evolving my
Tumescent Tummy Tuck and found by using Liposuction comfort techniques, I could perform my Tummy Tucks under local anesthesia with sedation. Patients were comfortable in the operating room and typically used very little to no prescription pain medication.

I then moved these techniques to my Body Lift Surgery. For safety reasons, I needed the airway protection of a Light General Anesthesia with patients needing to be moved on their sides to complete a 360 degree operation. However, the comfort results were the same! Patients typically need some injection pain medication initially, but not much and they progress quickly to oral medication.
Check out the bruising and swelling pictures that permit me to post images so soon after surgery.
Tummy Tuck patients can usually walk from the operating room. Body Lift patients are out of bed the day of surgery. Both techniques have been really exciting.
I have been evolving this technique now for more than 10 years. Recently at meetings, I have been finding other doctors finding similar benefits. Good ideas will crop up simultaneously in multiple locations.
Hope this helps,
Michael Bermant, MD
