Thanks everyone for your input! This is a tough decision for me. I needed a reduction long before I got heavy. I was a 36 DD when I got married 25 years ago at 145 pounds. The problem is I can get the surgery now and the insurance will pay for it. If I wait, they'll probably consider it cosmetic (unless they're still big).

After having big boobs since age 10 (seriously, my 10th birthday present was a bra), I would never consider implants.

After reading what everyone advised, I think I'll wait. I really can't get excited about having two surgeries in one year. I had 2 pregnancies, one was twins with a vertical C section. My belly looks like a road map and I'll probably need some kind of cosmetic surgery after all this anyway.

In answer to Marie, I had contemplated that--having the reduction and not having WLS. The problem is, I've gone through so many ups and downs with my weight that I need the WLS. I can't seem to get much below 190 without blowing up again. The only time I was less than 170 was after I had my kids and started smoking again. I have to stay off the cigs for good and I know the weight will just keep piling on if I don't do something drastic.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your support. I'm glad I found this site. You people are the best!

Default oh the boobs...

I can only tell you what I've gone thru...I was a 46H at 165 kg. I'm now a
36H at 85kg. and it's all flabby, yucky skin I'm rolling up & packing into my bra. I still have ca. 30 pounds to go before I can be a candidate for surgery & then the healthcare system here wants me to be stable at that weight for a year before they'll take care of everything that hangs, sags & bags. If you are 100% positive they insurance will not pay post-op, then by all means have it fixed now. But for sure I'd check & see what the insurance says first & get it in writing.
Hope for the best for you..
Nancy

Default This is what has me worried

I was always big, and at the moment I'm barely in my 46I bras. When I was 120 pounds (much less than 1/2 of what I am now) I was a 34DD. I'm hoping that after my surgery and weight loss I'll still be large enough to qualify for a reduction (my back problems connected with my chest are documented going back decades).

DEFINITELY wait until after your surgery. When I was in my 20's I had a friend who was around 200 pounds and had a reduction. She was thrilled with her new C cup - until she lost 80 pounds and became an A cup!

Thumbs up Hold off till weight gone

I had GB 6+ years ago. Breasts were 48DD. After losing and maintaining weight loss for that time, breasts had only gone to 42DD and hung to my belly button with no bra.

Had breast reduction about 18 days ago. In that time I have gone from 42DD --> 40D --> 40C --> 40B --> 38D --> 38C. That's a lot of new bras for an average of about 3-4 days per size!!!

Ultimate size, per plastic surgeon is probably 38C or 36C or 36D. And knotted neck pain was completely gone the morning after surgery. Neck, shoulders and upper back now on way to physical therapy to strengthen the muscles that have been abused for so long.

Good luck!!!

I'm still pre-op but this is a topic near and dear to my heart I am now very well endowed at my high weight and even though I'm 25, the girls are already pretty saggy God willing if I'm able to jump through all the hoops and get WLS I'm fairly certain PS won't be far behind.

I would say wait for two reasons:

[1] once you reach your goal you may want to do some additional work, tummy tuck or otherwise. A big part of surgery expense is anesthesia - if you wait and do it all at once, it will save you [or your insurance company] some money AND you won't have to go thru the healing process multiple times.

[2] after WLS you will lose A LOT of weight in a shorter amount of time than diet/exercise alone - as i understand it part of this weight loss is due to ketosis which is your body using fat for energy. you may end up losing much more weight from your breasts than you could have ever expected. waiting will ensure that you don't reduce too much for your liking

You've had big boobies for most of your life - as much of a pain in the butt [err back?] as they are you may not be any happier with a A/B/C cup vs. a D/DD simply b/c the fuller appearance is something you're used too.

Hope that makes sense... and is helpful No matter what you decide, go with your gut instincts and be true to yourself. Good luck!!!!

Talking just had a review abot my boobs

Good Morning to you all.

I went last week to see about a boob job and was told the same as the advice given here to wait until all the weight has gone. That is all the excess I want to loose.

when i started my weight loss in August last august 2007 my bust measures 49 inches. Today they are 37 inches and they are like to peas in a pair of socks, they are very uncomfortable and buying a bra is not easy now as the skin hangs all around the sides as well.

the surgeon then suggested I bought a new bra ever 4 weeks to stop the pain I have been having in my nipples as they are rubbing on my bra all the time. He then told me that when he measured them they were 7 inches hanging from were they should be so when I loose the last stone they will get worse.

When I started to loose weight they were big and my bra size was 46GG not I am wearing a 34dd sometimes I cant believe how much weight I have lost let alone how much smaller my boobs are now.

I cant wait to get all this skin removed and start to feel less like a jelly lol

good luck with your weight loss and I hope you are happy with what ever the outcome for your boob job is.

I've decided to wait. The fuller appearance is what I want to get rid of. I'm sick of not being able to wear button down blouses. I haven't been able to since I was 11 years old!

And yes, they are a big pain in the back. I hurt my back a few weeks ago and the pain won't go away.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

I think waiting is your best bet. It would be aweful to have a reduction now and then after the weight loss having saggy boobs. Its a hard decision, when you have to worry about insurance covering the procedure. Good luck to you.

My boobs are already saggy. Gravity has really taken its toll. They're just too friggin' big. My back hurts all the time. I can't stand up any more than 5 minutes. I'm still going to wait, but I can't imagine what they're going to look like after I lose 100 pounds! LOL
