Wink Firt visit with PS and it sounds a little rough no walk in the park!!!

Suzanne and went to the PS today and found out he is recommending the feur de lis. It is an up side down "T" cut. Sternum to pelvic bone and hip to hip.

He says I will have two large hernia repairs with muscle work done. He is removing all existing scares from the 4 previous surgeries. They will relocate the iliostomy and forget about the navel. I will not be in any beauty contest with my bag hanging off my tummy anyway.

He said I would be in the ICU for 1 to 2 days to help with breathing and then a few days in the hospital after that. He is saying that it is the most difficult surgery I have had. I really was not ready for that. I just thought of it as a final clean up procedure. I have to admit he spoked me a little.

I will have my other surgeon assisting him to relocate the ostomy. he said a total of about 7 to 10 hours. Then he said I would have some smaller procedures latter in the year for clean up he did not elaborate on what they would be .

No time line yet but I got things rolling. we will see when they can schedule the room for a Monday that they are both available, and run this whole thing by the insurance co. I am hoping with all of the complications from previous surgeries they will cover this..

I just needed to share I guess, nerves, and a little of fear. you guys are a great sounding board and comments very welcome...

Let's rock and Roll....

You will be fine. It's no walk in the park that's true. I didn't have any muscle work done, but I did have hernia repair. So it sounds about like the same incision that I had. I had 100 staples, not to scare you now, should I even have told you that? There were two drains, one off each hip and yes, it was worse than the open RNY as far as soreness. I took about a week off work, well not really I did go in one day that week had to no choice. Not sure if yours will be similar but after the first week like all surgeries it gets better. I was also given an elastic band to wear which gives you a sense of security that everythings not going to fall out. Besides it makes you look really thin!!!! Anyway they don't let you wear it forever but that's okay. I wish you the best of luck oh and by the way the belly button went by the way side too! Too many surgeries and too much risk of loss of blood circulation due to moving and scar tissue so I said what do I need it for anyway, and it also makes it easier on the surgeons. Well I'm rambling now so....keep your chin up and keep plugging away at it.

Sharon

Dave, I also that the inverted T for my TT. I also had my thighs done at the same time. I had a small hernia and the the thightening of the muscles took care of that. I was in the OR a little over 7 hours. It was supposed to be around 4....of course I didn't know until I was being wheeled up to my room and my husband was like it'a almost 9 pm. I was taken to the OR just a little before 1. I had so much skin that it took longer. It was rough the first 5-6 days but got a little better each day. I had to use a walker the first 2 days and was hunched over walking around like this little evil garden troll. But it was worth every bit of pain to get rid of my "stomachs". Since I had the stomach and thighs done, I had a body compression garment that I had to wear. Had 2 drains that stayed in for 12 days. I've had some revisions done and will be having hopefully final revision on upper abd and my arms done the end of this year. I was out of work 3.5 weeks, but have a desk job now so I was able to go back. If I still worked in the ER, I probably would have been out at least 6 and had to go back with major restrictions. You will not be able to lift more than 5 lbs for 8 weeks. That means you can't even pick up a full gallon on milk. You definately would want a foam wedge pillow to sleep on...this was a godsend for me, because you will not be able to lay flat for a while. Again, it's a rough procedure and not something to take lightly. But I would do it all over again and twice on Sunday. Good luck to you and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Sue

My first thought was: Dave has gone through so much already this year that PS will be a cake walk The PS was, by far (for me) so much easier with the after care. When I woke up in recovery, I looked at the nurse and said, "Do what you have to do, but I want a piece of pizza!!" I was so hungry!! From there it was just managing the soreness that I knew would come with it. Your sounds a bit more complicated, Dave, but think about all that you have already been through. ((HUGS))
