Thumbs down Plastics Appointment

Well, had my appointment yesterday and came back disappointed.

Mr Armstrong said he wanted me to go back to him in 6 months and hopefully I will have lost more weight, about 5st and then he will do the op. He said it was safer for me that way as I still have fat in my tummy and therefore lots of large blood vessels which would cause heavy bleeding and he wants me to be completely safe. Bit disheartening. Mum said she could fully understand where he was coming from and to trust him.

He took lots of photos of my tummy, front, side and rear views of my body, plus the sore I conveniently had under one side and the clear side.

On another note, he has offered to come and talk to us at the Berks group as Neil did at Woking to give another perspective. He knows Neil well and is clinical lead in his field in Berkshire.

he's probably right sweetie, i know your miserable but the more weight you loose prior to getting plastics the better off you'll be. I mean what happens if you loose another 150 pounds you will need more plastics done. Hang on dear and you'll soon be on your way to the plastics

I understand your frustration but he is right. There is alot of blood loss with the tummy tuck. I had 10 pounds removed and lost ALOT of blood.

This is a huge surgery and you want to do it as safely as possible.

Hang in there, your day will come.

Hang in there sweetheart - your surgeon obviously knows his stuff and as disappointed as you feel right now, it's the safest thing for you and that's the only thing that matters.

OK - lets start counting down together cause that's when I'm going to get my tummy sorted out too. hugs.

Thumbs up

Thanks everyone

Having had time to reflect I know he is only thinking of me. My tummy weighs somewhere in the region of 5-6st (70-84lbs) So it will be a big op, then of course there are all the other plastics to follow. He said he would do my body lift in two parts as it would be safer. Boobs and thighs then arms and my private bits

He said that the blood loss would be phenominal due to my previous weight and the huge blood vessels which don't shrink.

Good news is that I have lost 3lbs since Monday so on the right track but it was mainly down to chucking up yesterday after a grape got stuck and having the runs again I reckon.

Lou...congrats on your weight loss so far. I can totally understand your disappointment. I know you realize it's for your own good but that doesn't always make it easier. Beth is right. I had about 8 lbs removed from my stomach and thighs at the same time and I, too, lost a lot of blood. Because of all our fat, the blood vessels have to wind themselves thru all that fat to provide blood to the skin. You would have a lot of complications such as would infections, most likely tissue necrosis, wound dehiscense. Sounds like you have a very competent plastic surgeon working with you. Just keep plugging away at the weight loss and you will get there. Sue
