general weight goals/body fat % before plastics?
I figured I would ask here before heading to an intial consultation because...well, it's just easier!
I originally had a goal of 150 lbs., but after my trainer telling me that if I got below 170, my body fat % would probably be unhealthy (apparently I'm pretty muscular) and being stable at 190-195 lbs. for about 8 months, I'm starting to think that maybe my goal needs to be changed.
My point is that I was going to wait on plastic surgery until I hit my goal weight. Now I'm thinking that maybe I should just schedule them? I definitely need a tummy tuck and breast lift/augmentation. I've got my house on the market now and plan to use the money from that for the surgeries. yay!
What were your experiences with what doctors wanted from you as far as weight loss before scheduling surgery? Am I likely to come across being told that I need to lose another 20 lbs. or something before having them?
Thanks everyone!

becareful with who's advice you buy.
Also realize things have gotten way waay scewed in the workout/healthy weight/eating world in the past 10 years.
How tall are you? Have you had real BF% analysis testing done. What is he basing his calculations on? how you look? thats not very accurate. Its impossible to know more than a general sense what someones weight should/should not be without actual real data.
My suggestion would be before you spend thousands on surgery you get some real data to find out where you are and where you might need to be pre op, which inturn will help you greatly post op.

Olusha,
I'd definitely agree with porshh951...he's pretty "health knowledgable". Sometimes to the extreme (sorry porshh951)...but that's what makes him so knowledgable...he practices what he preaches!

Don't apologize your 100% correct. I decided long ago I was going to take this process all the way and beyond.
and I do practice what I preach. Its the only way I would/will learn. Its why I know what I know cause i've been there.
back on topic get some real data. It may help you loads. As a prime example my trainer told me when he measured me at 275lbs that I should never weigh less than 220lbs because of how much muscle I had grown on my body(he made a point at making this huge speal about me being so big and working so much it had greatly scewed my results giving me alot of muscle in a short time frame).
At any rate he was quite wrong in the end wasn't he. He told me 220lbs to be single digit BF and I ended up having to weigh 190. Case in point no trainer is going to be able to give you exact numbers and details like a machine will.

Thanks for the posts!
No, he didn't base his calculations on how I look. That's ludicrous. I haven't been tested hydrostically, but I've had pinch tests and electric tests done numerous times since my surgery.
I wasn't asking for exact numbers or giving my own exact details, but that doesn't mean I don't have them. I'm not ecstatic with my numbers, but after being stable for so long, I'm starting to think that I've achieved everything I'm going to with diet and am ready to stop the "ok, when I lose another 30 lbs., I'll get a tummy tuck" mindset.
What I'm trying to determine is whether a surgeon will support me in this new mindset or they will be likely to say "nope, you need to have a normal BMI before plastics."
I know they usually need for you to be stable in your weight loss and not still rapidly LOSING...was just wondering if anyone went in and had a doctor say "ok, great, let's do this tummy tuck on you once you get down to 23% body fat or a BMI of no more than 24."
Of course I will adhere to whatever the particular surgeon I choose says, I'm just trying to get an idea before I go in since it will probably be a few months until I do.

What my plastic surgeon wanted to see was a stable weight for the past 6 months and that I was at least 18 months postop. When I had my plastic surgery I was at a BMI of 26 or 27, I believe. I was about 10 pounds from my goal weight. My PS was totally comfortable with going ahead and doing my surgery at the weight that I was at and being at 20 months postop. Hope that helps.

Hi,
Congrats on you success!!! My opinion is that if you feel comfortable with your weight and health, don't follow an arbitrary goal that you set awhile ago when you were a different person. I had originally set a goal of 160, but at 180 I feel great. I had my body fat tested and I an in the athelete range, so obviously I'm healthy. So go with what you feel is right. It's all about feeling good about yourself. Goals are important as they help motivate us but they shouldn't rule us. If you feel its the right time, then I say go for it. Good luck
Jim

Great Posts for Olusha
I really liked what everyone said here. I have had my plastics and I wanted to be able to give Jim some in put, but because my Drs and surgeon are Italian it was difficult to relate to them what he was asking that I might have already gone through. I hope you found some answers to your questions from the other day. Now having said that I am at 95kg around 208lbs my hope is for 185, but I am happy now, but want to see not fatty areas, having the large 40 lbs of panis removed during abdominoplasty was like excuse the words FUCKING AMAZING, I cried when I looked down the first time and could see my body including everything between my waist and toes. I think I am looking great, still see some skin areas that I will work on over the next months with swimming, cardio, gym etc......... and my plastic surgeon already has some touch up area he know we will have to take care, one being around my pubic area. Has anyone else found this to be a problem area and what have you done to help it out. Its like it has its own little fat pouch, I am also holding some liquids from recent abdominoplastica and also hip surgery so will continue having it drained every few weeks, the plastic surgeon usually gets about a 1/2 liter. Well thanks for the read and listen.

Yes most surgeons will want your weight to have been stable for a few months before the operation. As far as exact weight BMI details(btw BMI is total BS) or BF% that I don't know. I would imagine it would different with every surgeon. What they personally feel comfortable with and what they don't.
Mine didn't mind going ahead and cutting me even though I had only been at pre-op goal weight for 30-40days. She knew I had lost all the fat and knew I would stay stable.
So your surgeon may actually be okay with operating on you now. You just don't know until you ask and get a consult. Which is another thing i'd suggest you do.
BTW congrats!!!

haha wow, ok...just sounds like no one really knows then. That's cool, I will just find out when I go in for a consult. My aunt has worked for the same guy for like 15 yrs. and has had procedures done by him so that's where I'm going to start.
I just wondered because I won't be making that appt. for who knows how long, with the market like it is. I won't want to go there until I have the money.
btw, holy crap at 40 lbs. being taken off during a surgery! That's a heck of a lot of skin.
