I dont think there are many members here who actually medically "need" plastics. Its just more of a personal choice one must make. Some people could care less about the skin/legs/boobs/chest/whatever their trouble spots are and others may want them to look a little better.

I say as long as you are happy with yourself whatever that may mean then thats all that matters. Plastic surgery is costly and a risk like anything.

Age doesn't really matter. It seems to depend on how long you have been morbidly obese and how long the skin has been over stretched. If you've only been 150lbs over weight for the last 4 or 5 years or so, you may not have issues with loose skin. I had been overweight for most of my life so the elasticity in my skin was gone a long time ago. Exercise will not tighten loose skin. The majority of the people I know who are post op have issues with loose skin. Some choose to have plastic surgery, some would like to but cannt afford it, and some don't mind. Sue

I am 30 years old, had the surgery when I was 28. I was only MO for about 2-3 years and my skin basically went back. I don't "Need" any plastic surgery. My tummy is a little bit loose, kind of like after having a baby. Which I did that too..I believe I "need" a boob job. I have NOOOOO boobs at all. And they are disgusting looking. They are basically just a tiny bit of loose skin hanging there. And I do have a really FLAT butt. But as far as loose skin hanging I believe I have been pretty lucky and I haven't done anything as far as excercise. Just normal life of chasing around 4 little ones. I think it is everyones own opinion of there body if they NEED or WANT plastics. I really WANT my butt and boobs done someday but today I am just thankful to be thin and healthy!

I keep hearing from people in my support group that exercise is the only thing that can be done to help, that muscle helps the tissue bond tighter to the body. When I asked the doctors, they said it was genetic. Can you say more about this? I've always been overweight, but gained 100lbs in the past 2 years (quickly).

I am really hoping I won't need surgery.

Not to knock the wind outta peoples sails but, you just can't be 150lbs or more overweight and not have any backlash as far as your skin go's. It may not be as bad as some others but, you will still have loose skin.

I trained for sometimes upwards of 3hrs a day everyday for a year straight during my weightloss phase, Im male(meaning I have alot of muscle already), I was 24 years old, I used to be skinny in young life(meaning I haven't been fat all my life). I still have some loose skin even now after plastic surgery.

The truth is your body can't loose half of itself and it not affect your skin. In coming years mine may get better and retract fully to my muscles but, the real truth is who knows.

Plastics are not a NEED. 99% of the time they are a want. A vanity thing. WANTING a flat tummy, WANTING batwings gone, WANTING nicer boobs. Very rarely is it ever a need. I think the only example was miladyb, that she had rashes, correct me if i am wrong here.. that I can understand needing it.

I hope people don't go into this expecting to come out with this supermodel body. You did this to make yourself healthier, not become barbie. Even the healthiest of ppl have rolls and cellulite and hell, even saggy boobs.
