Extended Direct sunlight. Long term post plastics
I've spoken about this before in my own plastics thread some and have gotten some conflicting advice. So here is my question posed to all plastics people who are a year out or more.
How long seriously did you wait until you got tan or anything? Im not talking about being out in the sun for a couple of hours here and there. I mean like how long before you were able to be on the beach and what not in direct sunlight for hours on end and be okay.
Im growing very tired of my pale complexion. I do not however wish to injure myself in anyway. I will wait as long as I feel I need too but, I really would like some first hand experience/knowledge.
Any imput welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hey John - I had my plastics in March of this year, and started hitting the tanning salon in July with my doctor's okay. I was cleared in June for the tanning thing and the hot tub, but he wouldn't clear me for horseback riding until the first part of August.
With the tanning in the beginning, I was careful and covered the scar area until I had 5 minutes left, and then uncovered it. I did this for a few weeks, and then I left it uncovered...

Same here, John. I tanned but used the surgical tape I had left over to cover the insicion as much as I could and then after about 3 or 6 months kept it exposed.
I think you have seen my pics (?right) It shows the scar lines and they are pretty light.

I wondered the same thing, thanks for asking and answering. I want to wear a 2 piece bathing suit in hawaii in 4 weeks, but concerned about my scars (anchor incision) I thought mega sunscreen on that area, but knowing me, I would end up with a white stripe down my belly! Pictures don't lie!

Lisa - I bought a 2 piece black bathing suit in Hawaii because the 1 pieces I brought with me were too big. I was self conscious when I first went to the pool, and people did look (even though the is getting lighter every day), but know what? I didn't care - I was wearing a 2 piece when I was the one who always said I never would...and the scar was fine because I had been to the tanning salon regularly before going...

Can you recommend a plastic surgeon?
I have seen many before and after pics of men.
Most, there is still excess in the chest area, just under the arm pit, and going toward the chest. Why? How was yours?
I want mine gone. All gone.

I believe I was able to start tanning 2 or 3 months after plastics. I use a tattoo stick on my entire scar, you can find them at tanning salons. You can actually use any sunscreen stick with a high SPF. The stick is much easier than using sunscreen. I use it anytime I'm in the sun, I also cover my scars under my bathing suit just to be safe. I'm almost 2 years post-op and my scars are hardly noticable

I used Dr Raeann Capeheart. The same one who did my GBS sugery. Unfortunately plastics can only do so much. Unles you get a full body lift and even then you will just always have area's that wont be perfect.
The best advice I can give is give it time and workout as often as possible. Slowly overtime it seems to really make a difference in how you look.
