Default How long does the numbness last?

Ok, I'm going to jump in and ask the first question here. I'm curious what everyone's experience is with the numbness after their tummy tuck. I asked my plastic surgeon how long it would last and all I got out of him was, "A long time."

I'm 8 weeks post-op and have significant numbness in my abdominal flap up to mid abdomen and in one of my hips. So do you eventually find that the feeling comes back and if so about how long? I know 8 weeks is way to soon to expect for it to be gone but I guess I was hoping to hear that I'll at least get back more feeling than I have now.

Hi sweetie-

I still have numb areas along my incision site, where my drain was in the top portion of my right leg, and a little bit in my pubic area. Nothing alarming, though - just enough that when I put the Mederma on, I can't feel what I am rubbing it on.

I was told that the numbness may or may not go away. If you think about it, there were a lot of layers sliced into, and a lot of nerves severed that may never fire again. My flat tummy is worth it though...bye bye nerves

I am not that much farther along than you, but where my incision was open for so long is still sore and numb. For the most part, the rest of my scar is not numb and apparently that is not normal. The doctor is very surprised that I have as much feeling as I do there - he says the nerves were cut.

My husband had a radical mastectomy in 1999 and his scar on his chest and under the armpit is still numb. I can't relate to that. He was feeling my incision the other week and was surprised at how I can feel it all.

I had my ps a year ago and still have some numbing in a few areas. I was also told that it my never go away. I was real numb all over for a 6 months or so. Hey I'll take the flat tummy and numbness anyday!

It took about 3 months for the majority of the numbness to subside. Im told its different for everyone. I still dont quite all ALL the feeling back in that region and im just under 4 months out.

So keep your chin up if you are only 8 weeks out it gets better. Trust me.

I am still totally numb all the way around the surgical site. Feeling is gradually coming back, but nothing noticable or remarkable. I was told to expect that to last a year or more and the feeling may never return to 100%. You know all that is now connective scar tissue, which is avascular, so the odds of having the return of all sensation is slim. It doesn't bother me a whole lot...except when I can't tell that my draws are hanging off my fanny!!

Thanks everyone. I knew from the get-go that it probably wouldn't all come back. I'm fine with that. Like the rest of you I'll take the flat tummy any day. But on the other hand its nice to know that there is a chance I will get back more than I have now. Right now pretty much my whole right abdominal half from just above my belly button on down to my incision doesn't have any feeling. Now on the other hand most of my sensation is intact when it comes to my breasts. There is just one small area under my left breast that is numb. I hardly notice it but I most certainly notice my abdominal numbness.

I appreciate everyone's input on this.

Default Numbness

I had my boob job on October 4th and not just the incision but from the nipple down to the incision is still numb on the left side. It is still numb on the right but i can feel more then on the left. I worked for a plastic surgeon and we had people who were still numb at a year out. So it might come back and it might now. WHat happens is if you stretch the nerve endings so much it damages them and you will never regain feeling.

Thank God for numbness...otherwise the tattoos would have killed me! Two years post plastics and numb along all the scar lines and about 1/2 inch of surrounding tissue.

I haven't had plastic surgery yet, but I had 2 c sections, the last in 2005 and I'm still numb. I just figured I always would be.
