Default 3 weeks away from plastic surgery

It was so good to see this posting, as always they more I look here the more help and support I find. Thanks!!!!!
I am 3 weeks away from plastic surgery, apparently it will involve liposuction, a cut from hip to hip and the Dr. told me I can expect numbness for some months, but I tried asking him about a program on television that I saw where a woman was still numb around the incission for a year now. I wondered if that was the normal or the rarity. I think that having this proceedure is the step to letting me see the real results of going through the gastric bypass and lossing the weight.
I have a personal question that perhaps is not ok to ask, but I will anyway. After the plastic surgery were your private parts of your body more accessable? This is my hope as my pelvic area seems to have it's own little lap apron area and causes some coverage.
Ok now that I am a bit embarrassed I will press submit before I become too embarrassed and erase this.
Thanks.

I'll jump in and answer this one - no question is off limits here.

I have an anchor incision because I had my hernia done at the same time I had my abdominalplasty (sp?). That means I have a scar from breastbone to pubic line, and outward from either side of that middle line to my hips. They repaired the hernia in the vertical line, and at the same time, pulled me tight around, down.....and up. EVERYTHING shifted. No longer are my privates buried under the apron, but because I have a flat tummy and a belly button where it should be, the pubic area was pulled up in the mix. I am used to it now, but in the beginning I wondered if it was normal. And...yep it sure is.

I am not sure if the same is true with a pannulectomy, but some of the gals here who had it can chime in about that one...hope this helps...

Paul, don't be embarressed. Like Whit said, no questions are off limits. The answer is, yes. They are much more accesable. I had an apron of skin that hung all the way down to my thighs. It is now totally gone.

In regards to the numbness I strongly suspect it is pretty common to continue to have some numbness that will never go away. I'm sure I will always have an area of numbness but I do hope that I get back more feeling than I have now.

Paul, as some of us are nurses, we have no problems with answering uncomfortable questions! I was amazed I could actually see my nether regions when looking straight down. I asked my doctor several times if he put my belly button in the right place because it looked kind of high. It was. I'm almost a year out from my TT and thigh lift. I have never had a flat stomach in my life. I'm actually preparing to have a small revision of my thighs just before Christmas and next year will tackle the upper arms. My stomach has some numb areas but nothing that I really notice. That is until I do a exercise class that has a lot of jumping around. It's like my belly gets that sensation of pins and needles like when your leg goes to sleep or something. It "wakes" up after a while, but it happens everytime. Sue

I'm 8 weeks post-op and have significant numbness in my abdominal flap up to mid abdomen and in one of my hips. So do you eventually find that the feeling comes back and if so about how long? I know 8 weeks is way to soon to expect for it to be gone but I guess I was hoping to hear that I'll at least get back more feeling than I have now.
On the numbness.... Well years ago (20) I had my first C-section, The numbness was crazy I was facinated with it lol, the my son came along 17 years ago, i was still numb and under went another C-section. I remaind numb, it never went away... then when I was 23 I had a hysterectomy and guess what.... I was still numb from the first c-section and today I am 38 and my original surgery is still numb. I always said after my TT if I ever got a tattoo it would be along my bikini cut cause there is NO FEELING there! I am looking forward to the day I get my TT I am thinking just maybe it will be the same BUT as far as my bowel obstruction surgery, nope no numbness ever. So I am thinking just maybe it is the nurve that runs along that surgical area that causes numbness. hugs sue

I am still numb....but I think it was because I was opened 3 times or so vertically and twice horizontally. Many of my specialists say that I will have permanent nerve damage, pain, and numbness for years to come, maybe even permanent. My breasts are finally not that bothersome. One hurt forever and I didn't think it would ever go away.

I am sure it won't be that way with you. I am not much help, huh?

Hello, my name is Debra. I had my open rny back in July 05. with great results. Approx. 105 lb wt loss. I just had a hernia repair, a belt lipectomy or abdominoplasty, bilateral brachioplasties and lower body contouring. Those surgeries were done on Jan. 14. I am frustrated because I still cannot sleep in my bed. I am exhausted all the time. I did have a dramatic unexpected blood loss, my hematocrit went from 42 to 17 so I required 2 units of blood. I am healing well. My abdomen feels like a wall of muscle, it is so tight.
The surgeon told me he removed 19 lbs of fat, skin and the stretch marks went into the trash can. Very greatful for the ability to have a new life at my age of 51.
Of course I am a nurse and we are the worst patients, I am going out of my mind being home and not working. Don't get me wrong I am busy cleaning the house doing dishes etc. so I am not parked on the couch. I walk upright like most humans today.
The exhaustion is what gets me the most. I was going to the gym prior to the surgery to make sure I was in the best shape possible. Does anyone have any comments? suggestions? ideas? I appeciate speaking with someone that has undergone something at least similar. Comments welcome. Thanks
