Crab Dabs
Depending on what you use for the bacon, the protein and fat content will change. So use a guideline based on the bacon and crab contents.
Crab Dabs
Imitation Crab
Turkey Bacon, or regular low-fat, low salt bacon
Take 1/2 to 1/3 strip of bacon, wrap a piece of imitation crab inside and roll up. Secure with a toothpick.
Broil in the oven until bacon is crisp. I have done these on a stick over a campfire or on a grill. Good for company appetizers and good for us for protein.
I have done these with large prawns and a little cajun spice for a variation. Pre-WLS I used water chestnuts, but post-op, not enough protein for me.

Lisa how much protein is in one of these? I'm looking for new stuff. I only can eat 2 to 3 ounces per meal right now.

It really depends on the kind of bacon you buy and the crab has about 9grams (my package). Check the label out on the bacon and then work out how much total. I find these quick to make toward the end of the day if I need to get in a little more protein. Plus it holds well in my tummy. I am only eating up to 1/3 cup at one sitting.

Mmmmmmm, we made them with water chestnuts also. I bet you could buy the little sliced chestnuts and add it to the crab or shrimp. I'll have to remember that..........great idea! We used to put sweet and sour or BBQ sauce. I would get some low sugar BBQ sauce or seasonings. I gotta make these soon.

The grams of protein for the crab is good. I would probably use whateva bacon has the less calories/fat. Pay day is tomorrow so I'm gonna pick some up.

Ok, these seem popular...variations to this.
1) A prawn instead of the crab
2) Lobster imitation instead of the crab
3) Very crisp bacon is the best, crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle
4) Take chicken chunks (real chicken) marinated in small amount of calorie wise catalina dressing, sprinkle of garlic, then wrap bacon around a grill - oh

Water Chestnuts are good soaked in soya sauce before, then roll in parmesan cheese before rolling up in the bacon. Not as good of a protein source as the seafood....but good none the less.
When I have a gathering of people, I like to make a variety of them (water chestnuts, crab, chicken ect)all using turkey bacon...people never know the difference....
