Default Recipe Needs Work

Hi All.

You know me....I'm always looking for a new High Protein Recipe to share.

I usually pass up recipes with less than 20 g protein but this time I though it might be fun to take a lower protein recipe and see if we couldn't come up with a way of cutting the carbs and boosting the protein. So here's the basic recipe. Let's see what we can do with it.

Farfalle Pasta with Broccoli and Ricotta

This recipe serves: 6
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes

Ingredients
1 pound farfalle pasta (Bow Tie pasta)
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, crushed
4 cups broccoli florets
salt, to taste
freshly ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup part skim ricotta cheese

Cooking Instructions
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop the pasta in it and cook for 12 to 14 minutes, until al dente.
2. Meanwhile heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and stir for 30 seconds. Add the broccoli florets, salt, pepper and nutmeg and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, just until the broccoli begins to get tender. Remove from heat and place the broccoli mixture in a large bowl with the ricotta cheese.
3. Drain the pasta and immediately toss it with the broccoli and ricotta.

This sounds DELICIOUS! Maybe we could cut way down on the pasta and add some bite-sized chicken breast or chicken fajita meat? Adding a little parmesean sounds good too.

A little shrimp might taste good too!

If you are on regular liquids (as opposed to clear) you might feel more satisfied with low carb yogurt (try vanilla or lemon as they have no food/fruit pieces in them), suar free jello, sugar free pudding, or sugar free popsicles. All of them feel more like "food", even though they truly are liquids. Hope that helps.

Default Add shrimp

Try adding some shrimp to this recipe, and use low-carb pasta. I was told NOT to eat pasta, tho.

I'd change it to whole wheat pasta (tastes wonderful) and
use fat free Ricotta.
