Can You Really Eat These Things?
The recipes I have read on here sound amazing! I can't wait to try some, but (excuse my ignorance on the subject of food post op) can you really eat these things? I mean, obviously, I know that doesn't happen too soon after surgery & that it's a slow progression back to regular food, but I guess I envisioned having to eat bland tasteless food the rest of my life, lol. Sounds like I am wrong though. I guess the key is mostly portion control and dealing with any food aversions your system develops post op.

I'd say that the idea that bland tasteless food is in your future is a huge myth that many people believe till they get there..
I eat so much better now than I ever did.. and I love my spicy foods sooo much! I'm addicted to food shows, cuz if I am going to eat small portions it better be damn yummy!
I have tried MANY of the recipes on here. You won't be able to eat them immediately post op, but at some point you'll realize you're eating like "Naturally thin" people. Good food, healthy but TASTY food!

I don't eat bland food at all. I like spicy food and food with lots of flavor. I use a lot of the recipes I've found here on TT, and I've posted some other recipes that I like. What you need to focus on after surgery is low cabs, low fat, low sugar, and high protein. Imagine my surprise when I found out I could cook really good food that met that criteria! It's harder to get stuff that fits those guidelines in restaurants, so I don't eat out as often as I did post-op. I cook a lot more. And I have found that I actually like cooking, which I never knew before.
Portion control is important too, and your tool (the surgery) will help with that. You will still need to measure your food and pay attention to how much you eat, though. Even though you won't be able to eat nearly as much as you did pre-op, it is possible to eat too much after surgery.
But yeah, you can really eat all the stuff posted on here. LOL

I used to hate apples, now I can't get enough of them along with other fruit. I also can tolerate spicy food really well, which makes my hubby and my daughter's bf happy. They both love spicy stuff.
The strange thing is, I no longer crave chocolate and sweets. Ever since I cut down on the bad carbs, my cravings are for good food.

I absolutely can't STAND spicy foods..I hate the feeling of my mouth being on fire. My stomach doesn't get bothered by it or anything, it's just the burning sensation in my mouth and the need to swallow a ton of water to put the fire out. I can't even tolerate the mild stuff... I know i'ma baby

I actually realized today that the only thing I am really giving up is CRAP.
Sure I will miss the pasta, potato, rice, bread but its not all that healthy.
But all the other stuff - chips, candy, ice cream, pizza, fried stuff, ect, ect..... why even bother missing it since its just crap. And yes I know I
could have pasta, rice ect in moderation but I am carb addicted so I plan
on my only carbs coming from fruits and veggies.

We are on the same page for this Kel. I have always cooked but now I just cook differently. And if it does not taste good, I don't bother to eat it. Not worth it when you are eating at my stage a max of maybe like 1 1/2 cups of food a day, most days I don't even get that in.
Spicy food is the bomb and now that I no longer ever get heartburn, I can eat it as hot as I my mouth can stand it. (Joe, you stay away from that comment)

I'm almost 2 years out and I doubt that there's much of anything I can't eat.
Question is, do I want to eat them!
I signed up for the long haul so there a good few things I choose not to eat and most are just crap food anyway.
I'm worth better than that!
