Default Love my dehydrator!

Hate the dehydrated bananas though. Over the weekend I dehydrated apples, peaches, nectarines, bananas and celery (celery for chicken soup). Loved the apples, peaches and nectarines ok, but the bananas taste funny. I soaked them in lemon juice, but the centers still turned brown, they really don't taste very sweet and they have an odd flavor. Does anyone have a good dehydrated banana recipe? Any other favorite things to dehydrate to snack on would be welcome too! Thanks!

Sharon

I soak apple slices in pineapple juice to preserve their color (can't taste it after dehydrating)... wonder if that would work for bananas!

Default okra

I know it sounds weird. But...everyone that has tried it loves it. Dried okra..with just a smidge of salt added before drying. Keep air tight for a crunchy lowfat snack.

What kind of dehydrator do you use? How long does it take to make a batch of dried fruit?

Okra!

My sister-in-law would fry it black then munch down. I can't stand the stuff. There's just something about slime in veggies that turn me off!

Default It's an American Harvest Snackmaster Dehydrator

Toony - Pineapple juice is a great idea. I will try that. I was also thinking maybe fruitfresh or something along those lines.

Beth - My brother in Law says he loves okra so I might have to try that. I've never eatten okra. What is a good season to purchase it? Remember I'm in Michigan and I haven't really been lloking for it either.

Pat - I think it takes 16 - 18 hours. I went on line to try to find some times, storage etc. as I have moved a couple of times and can not find my book. I think I may have to contact the company to replace it.

I picked some apples off the tree in the yard tonight and have them going right now. It's potatoe harvest time up here in Northern Michigan and potatoes are fairly inexpensive right now so I think I might try to do a few of those. My family likes the Augratten (sp?) potates, although I don't make them very often, it would be kind of neat to try from scratch. Currenly I'm looking for some fresh parsley. I dehydrated quite a bit a few years ago and I use it in almost everything, but my supply is getting low. I think I might also do a few onions (In the garage) just to have on hand for soup too. This is also supposed to make jerky and fruit rolls....things that make you go Hummm. Anyway, as I said any recipes welcome. I used to can alot, and am now looking for alternatives.

Thanks guys.

Sharon
