Default Is diet soda allowed after surgery?

I haven't had mine yet, just in getting started stage. The reason I ask, is that I see so many on this forum having trouble getting into and enjoying a protein drink. I have done Optifast twice, and my favorite way to make that nasty drink go down was to mix it wth sf Fudge soda from Polar (It's a local brand here in the Northeast.) I'm guessing carbonation is probably a no-no, at least for some, but if you stir the bubbles out? Also, how about extract? If that's allowed, I'm sure that could help the tast too. I also love the idea of adding powdered milk to skim that I saw here. I'm taking notes!

Gee, that's too bad! I'm not a huge soda drinker, but I would hate to think I could never drink it again! I have a friend who had the surgery 1.5 yrs ago, she can drink her Coke, but I'm not sure how long she had to wait to do it.

My doctor told me to drink small sips of carbonated water to help with a stricture I have. They won't scope it for another week or so - but the bubbles help expand the stricture to let food through. The problem could that if you don't need it - it does expand your pouch and opening allowing you to eat more. It can be uncomfortable at first too since it's down there bubbling away! I really can't wait to go back to non-carbonated drinks. They've lost a lot of the luster for me! Good luck to you!

I think the carbonation question is one that so many people differ on. I choose not to drink soda. But I wanted to suggest the sugar free syrups. You can usually get them at TJ Max, Marshalls, World Market...........or order them online. But I own tons of them to make smoothies and to add to hot cocoa, tea, and coffee. I found DaVincis to taste best. Find them on a website, you will be amazed at the vast array of flavors they come in! I have everything from rootbeer to eggnog to B52. They are great.

Awwwww, thanks Carrie. I could never give more to this board and it's members than what I've received!! I can't even imagine how my journey would have been without it.

i agree, this board has been a lifesaver, i would have changed my mind about the surgery had i not found this site

i went in search of answers a few weeks before my surgery as i was having huge doubts, i stumbled across Lisa's story, with the doctor i was booked with and read all her posts, then alot of others and then started asking my own questions........had i not found this, i would not be the loser i am today!!!

i enjoy your responses, you seem to make me smile when i need it most and sometimes my stomach hurts cuz you make me laugh so much, you are a wonderful person

and Lisa has been so supportive and so amazing too and alot of others who have PM'd me and posted in threads and well you know what i am talking about the encouragement and support we receive on here is great and can get us through the worse days and share our best days

thanks to everyone who has touched my life, there are so many on here, even ones i have not talked to, but can read about it is great to know i am not alone

That is so cool to hear that you too have gained so much here. Just remember to stick around and pay it back to those coming after you.....AND before you. I get advice and support from people from all parts of their journey. But this is an amazing board.....and i am going to meet a bunch of folks this coming week. I'm so excited about the trip. Maybe we should get a group to meet in Canada sometime. I think it is beautiful, but never ventured much past the Falls.
