Favorite Holiday Recipes
I was thinking that it would be a good time for people to post some of their favorite holiday recipes. We have Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and some other ones just around the corner!

Once we get enough we could possibly even do a vote and send out a newsletter with the top recipes - or just skip the vote and send out a newsletter with the recipes.

Sweet Potatoe alternative,
This is really good, just made this last night.
Instead of the marshmellows, butter, pecans, and sugar, try this.
Get two to three sweet potatoes. Scrub them well. Cut in wedges. Place on cookie sheet prayed with Pam. Spray the wedges with Pam and sprinkle well with Kosher salt (it's bigger grained than regular salt). Bake them at 350 degrees for approximately 20 to 30 min. or until they are soft on the inside. Serve with butter and sugar free or reduced sugar maple syrup. YUM!

Here is my contribution. It is very high in protein and I serve it on reduced fat crackers.
Awesome Shrimp and Crab Spread
I was ordered to post this recipe I made up after some of the "girls" tried it. It is loaded with protien and tastes pretty good. I serve w/ reduced fat crackers.
1 can crab meat
1 can small shrimp (or 1/4 lb fresh bay shrimp)
1 pkg low fat cream cheese
1 tsp lemon juice
2 green onions, chopped
dash of garlic powder
1/2 tsp horseradish
1/4 tsp dill
1 jar cocktail sauce (optional)
Mix all ingredients together (add shrimp last), chill and enjoy! If you like, before serving, pour 1/2 jar of cocktail sauce over mounded spread.

Baked Asparagus
I'm taking this dish, along with traditional green bean cassarole to my aunt's house this year.
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tbls. chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup olive oil
1 pound fresh asparagus
1/2 pound raw bacon
salt and pepper to taste
toothpicks
-In a sautee pan over medium heat, cook garlic and parsley in oil for 3 minutes
-Break tough ends off asparagus
-lay 4-5 stalks of asparagus in the center of each strip of bacon; drizzle garlic oil over each bundle of asparagus; wrap the bacon around the stalk and secure with a toothpick.
-Lay asparagus bundles in a cookie sheet and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
-Bake in 400 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or until bacon is cooked.

Sweet Potato Suffle'
Here is a recipe from my step-dad that is absolutely delicious:
By the way...I couldn't tolerate the sugar in this, but the other people in my party could. They really loved this recipe.
topping:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
4 tablespoons flour
1 cup pecan pieces
1/4 cup karo syrup
4 tablespoons butter
1 can 28oz sweet potatoes
2 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1 stick butter
1/2 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
pinch of soda, nutmeg, cinnamon
mix well and pour in dish
spoon on topping
cook @ 350 for 45 minutes uncovered or until firm
top with marshmallows for last 5 minutes (until brown)
