  1. I decided to not have the surgery. I have come to terms that losing weight the regular way is a slow process and any loss that comes my way is good.
  2. Hello everybody, last august i decide that I was going to get Gastric Sleeve so I took the class through Kaiser and I met my Doctor. He said that I need to lose 25 pounds. I was like ok cool. I ask him will this get rid of my Diabetes? Then told me that it will go into remission but will come back even at a smaller weight. Due to me having it so long (became Diabetic when I was 22 and at the time of the appointment I was 39 now 40) So this threw me for a loop. The whole point of doing this was to get rid of my Diabetes. So i had to do to some soul searching and I decided to do it on my own. I figure use the diet that kaiser gave in there manual and I would kick up the exercise. I have lost a total of 68 pounds total. From My heaviest I have ever been at 415 to now. At my doctors appointment I was 390. I have been riding bikes, doing karate, kettlebells and swimming. I have been using myfitnesspal to help keep me mindful of what I eat. I also made a rule that if I can't make it, have made for me I stay away as much as possible. So very little process food. One big key is portion control that has been major forme. It is the reason why I wanted to get the surgery in the first place. I was like how is it I am an active big guy and I am not losing weight? Picture is when I was chaperoning prom in 2016 and the other is 2017. Keep moving forward in your goals guys and you will get there.
  3. I was let you guys know How I am doing . I Currently weigh 358. I have been meal planning and just exercising. Being mindful of what I eat(portion control). I plan to wait until May to make a decision about surgery. If I am 330 or lower then I will keep doing what I am doing . But If I am not then I will have surgery so far so good. Buying a bike last summer was the best thing I ever done. So from My highest weight total(415) till now I have lost a total of 57 pounds. 31 since going to the kaiser bariatric class.
  4. Since start working out 4 to 5 days a week, I have reduced my insulin intake. I was takin 40 units twice a day, now I am taking 20 units once a day. My A1C went from 8.5 to 6.6.
  5. I have decided to hold off on getting surgery until next summer. I figure I would give it the old college try one more time when it comes to weight loss. I have been using the diet given to me by Kaiser and I have been exercising 5 days a week. So far so good. When summer time comes around and I will look where I am at weight loss if I feel I am in a good place then I will stick too what I am doing. But If not then I will get surgery. I figured why can't I have the same dedication that I had when I was playing sports. I would lift that extra weight run a little farther, etc etc, with out thinking twice about. What I get older and I get soft. I just have to do it differently because you get older and your body changes. So either way it is going to work out.
  6. I met my surgeon for the first time today he told me i need to lose 25 pounds. Challenge excepted. I will post another when I hit that goal marker.

  7. My doctor told me today what he wants me to lose and it is not as much as I thought it to be. He only told me 20 pounds. I was expecting 60 but I figure if it was that much I would just do it my self. But 20 is way doable.
  8. I went to my Kaiser orientation and they said that when you eat, you eat protein first, fruit second, starch and so on. I was wondering does that mean you can't eat mixed foods again. Like casseroles stews again? Thanks you Derrick

  10. I was wondering are we able to use camelback style water reservoirs after surgery. I have a 3 liter one that I like to use when I go riding on my bike. I know you are not suppose to use straws. Was wondering if have to add a water bottle cage to my bike. Thanks D
  11. thank you
  12. In my district we still get coverage even though we are off for break.
  13. Hello everybody, My Orientation is set in Richmond Ca at Kaiser Richmond . Anything I should know? But why in the hell is it 5 hours! I was like damn. I knew everything at the info meeting except that Kaiser doesn't do Lap band any more. Is it possible to do research to get all the information for what you will learn in the 5 hours. They said to bring a snack but I think that is a trap to see what you will bring. Because somebodies snack is somebodies meal. Or it just could be because it is a long class lol. I am hoping that I will be able to get surgery in December the reason being is that I teach and I will be off.
  14. Hello everybody, i am in the beginning of my process and I have my class 8/23/2016. A little nervous because this the beginning of the process. A little about myself, I am a father, Husband, Teacher, former coach and athlete, martial artist. I have been a big person my whole life. I was 5' 7" in the 4th grade then I shot up to 6' in between 5 and 6th grade had facial in middle school, So i was man child. But I was an athletic big guy. I played basketball and flag football in middle school. In high school I participated in football, Field and Track, and wrestling. I did Field and Track in College. No health problems what so ever. So Life calls I get married and stop playing sports. I starting working full time and going to school full time. Did that for a year and half and went into Diabetic shock. Lost 65 pounds in two months and ended up in the ICU four 5 days and another in the regular hospital. So finish school started a family and teaching. I also started to coach. So the weight I lost I gain back. My daughter and I decided to do karate together and I have been doing it for about 6 years now. The most I have weight since becoming Diabetic is 405. the least I have been in the past 6 years is 375. Getting the weight has had me feeling like I am spinning my wheel in muds. working hard but not getting anywhere. So I talk to some friends this past summer and I did some soul searching and decided to make the decision to have the gastric sleeve. Hello everybody
