  1. I will be crossing my fingers for you! I have an older car but it runs really well still so I put plastic surgery ahead of having a new car for many years to come. Had surgery 16 September and glad I did. You have worked so hard to get your weight off, you have also been a vessel of information and strength to so many of us that I think it's great you have the surgery if it will make the outside of you match with your weight loss. Saying prayers insurance covers all or most of it!

  3. Hello: great questions. Some plastic surgeons charge for consultations, others do not. some on the answers will be what is right for you. I lost 90 fairly quickly after my surgery and have maintained since. I had surgery 18 months ago. Had a extended tummy tuck to remove skin and a breast reduction lift seven days ago. For me, I was ready at this stage but we are all different and ready at different times. From what I have read, insurance rarely covers for skin removal after weight loss. However, if you are having rashes and other issues from the excess skin, I would have all that documented in your medical files. I knew a gal who was denied but was having lots of problems with a certain area of excess skin. Her doctor documented all the medical issues and strongly said it had become a medical necessity to have this particular area of skin removed (only the stomach area that was causing problems). The put in the claim with all the times she had seen the doctor for these issues and the insurance ended up paying for the skin removal in that area. Thus, I would see a doctor for any issues it may be causes and have it documented. for me, I wanted to be at my goal weight for awhile to make sure I could maintain it as well as to become comfortable with my new way of eating and living before surgery. But, what is right for you might be very different, there are lots of thoughts and opinions but do what is right for you. by the way, the price for your surgery is great. Califirnis is expensive, I guess. I paid around $20,500 for abdominoplasty and a breast reduction lift with some lipo. Paid $1,400 for two nights at a very nice after are facility for plastic surgeon patients. I still might have a thigh lift. My arms have a bit of excess skin but I'm willing to live with that. I have a droopy rear end but I think I am ok with that also. Whatever you choose, I wish you the very best and hope to read about it. Good for you.
  4. Hello Everyone: please forgive me for not responding earlier, it's been really busy and I have not been online. I want to thank everyone who responded to this post with their thoughts and thank you to those who shared what procedures they had done. This past Friday, 16 September, I had surgery in Marina Del Rey, California. It was a five hour surgery, breast reduction/lift, extended tummy tuck and lipo in the waist (and I think also in the breast area). The breast reduction I have been wanting since I was 18! The extended tummy tuck I wanted because after losing 90 pounds skin was hanging there and I was scared to have it removed but wanted it gone. After surgery I decided, since I'm single, to save up and pay to stay at Serentity Aftercare in Santa Monica for two nights. It was the best experience ever. First two nights the pain was bad, I took my pain pills but it did not seem to help much. My doctor prescribed two or three injections of Demerol and it was the only thing that helped. I could not get out of bed by myself, I needed help walking, etc. I passed out three times the first morning there. It's still had for me to get in enough water because after a full sips I still feel full and the water will come back up if I continue to drink. Thus, I was very dehydrated and my blood pressure dropped. I'm needle phobic so I refused an IV (not smart). I was given the choice to drink a crazy amount of water in two hours or mandatory IV. I got the wage down and my blood pressure went up to normal and the fainting stopped. Won't make this mistake again if I ever have surgery. Sunday I went back home to my three-story townhouse. A friend met me there that first night. Do not make the silly mistake I made and not have someone there the first five days! I didn't accept any help from family or friends, not smart. After my friend left I could not move for awhile. I rented a recliner and thank gosh for that. You push a button and it either reclines and slowly punches you up out of th chair. It took me an hour to get out of that chair because of the pain. Had a nursing service come in the first four days to change bandages (not needed if I would have had my sister with me). I bruise easily and my bruising looked also black. Incisions hurt. Four days after surgery I went off my pain medicine. Do I still hurt? Yes, but it isn't that bad. I can't walk straight and take baby steps. My lower back is beyond hurting. I went to Costco to buy more protein drinks. Today is day 7 and I saw my surgeon and they removed my stitches around my belly button (the rest are absorbable stitches). My skin reacted to the tape they use to put bandages on so I am no longer wearing bandages. I have a compression garment on my stomach and now they having me wearing two compression bras. Lots of pressure. Before surgery I was wore a size 34 H bra and had some excess skin to the side of my breasts. They took me down to a size C cup (amazing) and were able to remove the excess skin. I am very, very swollen. My stomach is so tight it hurts. My doctor performs newer techniques so I had the stainless tummy tuck and there were no drains for my breasts. I will see him next week, he told me he took a picture of the stomach skin he removed and I want to see it. i might have the excess skin removed later from my thighs, they said about 40 % of my thighs are excess skin with some fat on them. Right now I still have a road to recovery ahead of me with these two procedures. I'm not sure what the final outcome will look like but it has to be better than what it was before. I am so sorry if this was too long and kind of boring to read. Thought if anyone was curious about the procedures it would give them an idea of what they are like, well, what my experience was like. Hope you are all doing well.
  5. Clickin: Thank you. What procedures are you interested in? I see you are also in California. There is a top Doctor in San Francisco I was going to see, other plastic surgeons up there recommended him because he does so many weight loss patients. However, although I'm from Northern California, I live down south in Orange County now so I decided it was easier to have surgery closer to my home.
  6. Thank you everyone for sharing about either your actual surgery experience or what you are thinking about. Sorry it has taken me awhile to respond, I was out of town. I scheduled surgery on September 16th for a breast reduction/lift and tummy tuck (they need to tighten the muscle and will also do a bit of lipo). I've known many women who have had breast reductions through these doctors. They are in Los Angeles and do not use drains for either the breast reduction or tummy tuck. If you are curious about the price, it is a bit under $20,000. As I don't handle pain well, I'm going to spend three nights at a recovery center. That center is pretty darn expensive but I think it is best for me for a few reasons. It will be interesting to go there because it is the same place many of the celebrities go to after they had plastic surgery. Would have preferred to go to a less expensive place but it's the only one my doctors deal with.
  7. Have found a plastic surgeon I would like to perform a few procedures. The procedures are a breast reduction/lift, tummy tuck (lots of loose skin) and a possible medial thigh lift (lots of excess skin) at a later time. i am 57 and in good health. I spoke with my main Doctor about having the surgeries and he believes I should have them done individually (I was thinking of having the breast reduction and tummy tuck done at the same time, a five-hour procedure). My doctor said even if I was younger, he would advise having the procedures done individually because he doesn't think it's good to be under anesthesia that long, especially for elective surgery). I was wondering what your views on it are? If I have one surgery at a time, how long should I wait before having another surgery I also wondered what you thought about medial thigh lifts? I've read the results of the surgery aren't always that good and the scar is very big and long. Your thoughts? Is 57 too old to have a major surgery like a tummy tuck? I'm realistic in my expectations, I realize I'm exchanging scars for loose skin. Thank you for your input. I'm now not sure what to do. Maybe I should just live with the excess skin? I've always been large busted so I will have the reduction/lift but now I'm not sure about the other procedures.

Was curious if there is anyone else out there around my age who has had a few procedures done and if they combined them or did them individually? The plastic surgeon thought it was fine to have two combined. Thoughts?
  9. Thank you so much for sharing what you had done. I'm happy you are ok, the blood loss sounds awful. Did you have multiple procedures during one or two surgeries? Were you happy with the results, especially the tummy tuck and thigh lift? I have heard the tummy tuck and thigh lift are very painful, did you experience this?
  10. Thank you! How do I find that topic?
  11. Hi Everyone: Wondering if any of you have had plastic surgery after your weight loss if you had excess skin. I had surgery last March and have maintained my loss. I have excess skin on my legs, stomach and upper arms. However, the skin isn't that bad on my arms, I can live with that. I would like to get a tummy tuck and possible thigh lift. I've see a few surgeons and think I found a surgeon in Southern California, where I live. I will also have a breast reduction/lift. I'm thinking of combining the breast reduction/lift and tummy tuck. I've heard the thigh lifts often don't have the best outcome, I'm looking at the medial thigh lift. Surgery is scary, especially a tummy tuck, I've heard it is very painful. I'm not worried about the breast reduction, I've known lots of women who have had them. Also concerned about anesthesia because I'm 57. If you have had a tummy tuck (with or without drains) or a medial thigh lift, I'd love to hear about your experience. If you had surgery in Southern California, would like to hear who your surgeon was. Although I will definitely have a breast reduction, I'm not sure about the tummy tuck or having a thigh lift in the future. The excess skin on my stomach and upper thighs is a pain to deal with but I will take that any day to be at a normal weight and to be off all my diabetes medicine; it's a small price to pay :-)
  12. Does anyone know how to see the most recent posts on a forum first? When I look at a forum, the posts start in 2014, I'm not sure what I doing wrong?
  13. Happy New Year! Been a few months since I've been on this site, hope everyone is doing well. I am in maintenance. At first I wanted to reach a certain weight when I had the surgery. However, I am very happy at the weight I am because I'm a size 6/8 depending on the clothes. I was wondering if anyone looks to stay in a certain calorie range when they hit maintenance. I noticed if I go back to the calorie range I used to be, I start to lose weight again. At this point, I want to maintain the weight I'm at, just not sure what calorie range I should be in. My daily protein intake can fluctuate but it ranges from 60 grams to 90 grams per day. Would like to hear what your maintenance plan is and if you keep you daily calories within a certain weight. Also, do you still use protein power? My daily food almost always includes protein power or a high protein bar or I can't hit the higher protein numbers. Thank you!
