  1. OMG Girl! I haven't been on here in months but thought I would come in today. I'm so happy to see that you're doing well, and look incredible!
  2. I'm 6'0" - I actually had members of TT who I met before surgery question why I was having it - They knew WHY I wanted to have surgery - they just didn't think I "looked" heavy enough. Because of my height, I held my weight well. I was on the "light side" of the acceptable limits when I was approved for surgery, and I never let what anyone else had to say influence my decision. It's been almost 2 years, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made!
  3. Thanks everyone so much for the kind comments. Y'know, when I first had surgery and would post pictures, somewhere deep down I think I needed the "oohs" and "ahhs" that we get from others. This time was more so much more than that. I don't remember that other person anymore. The people I work with never knew that person - they only know me as the person I am now. I never thought I was that big but's all there in black and white - LOL, and color! Putting the two pictures together was very cathartic for me. My husband looked at them and said "You are now one of those people you looked to for inspiration before you started." This time I posted to show that it can and does work, and that for the most part, life is sooo much better "on the other side!" As for Dr. C's party, I won't be able to attend. I am currently planning a party for 350 people from work for the same evening....
  4. I don't post much anymore but I'm still around. I know how much I loved to see progress and success pictures when I was new. Here are a couple for you. The first was in May, 2008, not even at my highest but around 275. The second is from November 14 in Las Vegas - I've plateaued at about 100 pounds lost and hover between 170-175. I'm 6'0" so that's not a bad weight for me - I'm now a size 10. I would still like to lose another 15 pounds and will still get plastics eventually, but life is great!
  5. Wow Chris! I don't think I would even recognize you if I saw you on the street! You look great my dear! Happy Thanksgiving!
  6. Mike! So great to see you here! I'm not around much either, but it was nice to see that you posted! Isn't Hawaii incredible? Where did you stay? Steve and I went to the North Shore in May - stayed at the Turtle Bay Resort and hated when we had to leave! Take care my friend!
  7. My hubby asked me to get one "just in case." I feel it's a small price to pay - I don't even realize I have it on anymore, and it could potentially save my life one day. On the top side it says: Name Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass On the bottom side it says: No blind NG tubes/scopes No NSAIDs Surgeon's name and #
  8. It took me a while longer to get approved through Tricare, but I succeeded by going through Balboa. My PCM referred me to civilian surgeons, but Tricare denied me because I didn't have any of their "big" co-morbids. About a year later when my PCM put in a referral for me to go back to the civilian surgeon, I got kicked into the military system by Tricare instead. Being able to go through Balboa was the bes thing that ever happened to me. Someone before me said that Balboa was not a "fun place to have surgery." LOL, I don't know of anyplace I would call "fun" for surgery. I had absolutely no problems with the staff or facilities, and other than my surgeon being deployed at the moment, continue to have no problems at all. I would totally recommend going through the military system if given the opportunity. I'm 18 months out and life has never been better!
  9. Eric, I so wanted to meet you both but we were in your neck of the woods - kinda anyway.. We were in Phoenix for the weekend. Hopefully next time!
  10. Where are the pictures????
  11. I'm a Phoenix. I started classes in March. Right now I'm doing my AA through Axia College which is a subsidiary of UoPhx. Ultimately, I will have a Bachelors degree in Information Technology. All of my classes are and will be online. I love the flexibility that I have by online classes. There is no other way I would be able to get my degree right now!
  12. We're not going to be able to make it after all. We made a commitment to our daughter months ago that I had forgotten about, and we have to make good on it that afternoon. I'll miss you all, but I need to do this for her. I'm looking forward to December! It will be here before we know it!
  13. Aww, thanks! I love catching up on your world on FB - I don't come here too often anymore! I'm working as an admin asst in an IT department of a major financial brokerage firm. I'm also going to school fulltime for an IT degree :)

  14. Hey Karen! I was TICKLED to read you've been in your new job for 3 months now... I'm behind on things here! Where are you working now? How do you like it? Thinking of you... you always make me SMILE!

  15. After a while you get to the point where you don't really think about the wow moments, they just become part of life... which is great - you feel, look and act like this whole "other person." However, once in a while, somthing happens that makes you really say "WOW!" and makes you so thankful for what you have done... today, I had one of those moments. I have been at my current job for a little over 3 months now - so these people never knew the big Karen. One of my co-workers walked up to me this morning and said, "I hear you had gastric bypass. So did I." We started talking, I asked him who had told him, etc... and then he said to me.... "If I hadn't been told you had surgery, I never would have known. You don't look like you've ever had a weight problem!" OMG! - All you folks on the east coast can probably see the glow from my smile all the way from San Diego!
