Default Morning sickness and vomiting

with my prior two (pre gastric bypass) pregancies, I had severe morning sickness. its worse with this one and the fact that I cannot vomit makes it even worse. I dry heave 8-10 hours a day even medicated with Zofran, Reglan and Phenergan. I have lost 10 pounds now since the morning sickness started at 5 weeks and im only 8 weeks now. To make matters worse, fat and carbs are no longer affecting me like they did prior to the morning sickness starting. Carbs and fats are actually soothing to my stomach and settle it quite well. Im also having issues with my pouch. Food isnt staying long maybe 15 minutes tops. Im following the rules still and desperatly trying to limit my fat and carb intake. Im naseauos 24 hours a day and wake up several times a night to eat and dry heave. I have an appt with my bariatric surgeon *been rescheduled 2 times due to surgeries) on the 16th and have my 3rd visit with my OB on the 16th as well. I am scared that something is going to go wrong soon. I was so confident until 2 days ago that this pregnancy is good and going to end happy and healthy for both of us but now im having second thoughts. I saw the heartbeat 2 weeks ago and the baby was measuring fine.

Anyone else have severe morning sickness post RNY? other than that i guess i just need some reassurance that things will be fine.

Well, my only pregnancy was pre-RNY, but I had pretty much the world's worst morning sickness. It lasted for almost the whole pregnancy, despite the fact that everyone kept telling me it would go away after the first trimester. At one point I had to be hospitalized for several days because I was dehydrated from vomiting so much. They gave me phenergan suppositories, but they didn't help that much.

Saltine crackers helped some. I know, carbs. I nibbled them pretty much all day long. Eating a tiny amount about a zillion times a day helped a little. Peppermint tea helped some. But it was really, really miserable. So I definitely sympathize with you.

I will say that my baby was just fine. I did gain some weight despite all the vomiting and she was over seven pounds at birth and healthy and the labor and delivery went just fine.

I was pregnant post-op, made it to 12 weeks and I was sick all the time too. Right now, I wouldn't worry about fat or carbs. Eat whatever is going to stay down because you want to digest as much as possible. If 80% of your food intake comes from carbs and fat until your morning sickness passes, so be it. As a matter of fact, my OB told me that she didn't care if all I ate was crackers and peanut butter all day long, as long as what I was eating was staying down.

I have luckily had no problems with morning sickness through my first trimester. But i do feel ya with the fat and carbs. My pouch has changed dramatically in the last 3 months. Proteins are actually not appealing at all.. and cakes, candies, toast all that stuff is. But i am still losing weight even with the pregnancy so i am not worried. After this kiddo comes.. I will have to get back to basics to keep me in line to hit goal.

I am now 13 weeks and I had terrible sickness from week 6 to week 12. it is just now easing up. I lost 12 lbs and was so worried. I also only wanted carbs and fats because proteins made me want to vomit as they sat so heavy on the belly. EVERYTHING you are going though it normal. It sounds like my first trimester exactly. I ate cheese and crackers pretty much the whole time (hence my constipation problems too...lol). PM me if you have any questions, I understand your pain~! Just know, mine is finally getting better, so there is hope.

Hi Amity, and I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. I've been fortunate to escape morning sickness with both of my pregnancies. I've been getting acid reflux pretty bad though, which can be a miserable feeling.

Under the circumstances, I think you should eat what you're able to. If that means too many carbs, then so be it. Have you tried any protein drinks lately? Maybe something like the Nectar Syntrax (watery and juicy), might go down okay without making you sicker.

They say that morning sickness usually goes away by the 2nd trimester. I hope that's the case for you.

I haven't had severe morning sickness but definite food cravings and major digestion probelms and vitamin deficiancies but I am doing great now at the end of my second trimester. I am 26 weeks.

My only advice is eat anything and everything that makes you feel better or you are craving as long as it isn't booze or pica. I wouldn't worry too much about the rules when you are sick and newly pregnant. I was and still am a bit terrified about weight gain but the health of mother and baby are most important. I think they sell morning sickness bands you could try, they prescribe meds sometimes too for nausea.

Drink whatever and whenever you can. Dehydration stinks. Loosing 10 pounds won't hurt the baby right now but I suggest eating high carb and fat to get out of this down swing if you can.

I can totally relate to a post gastric bypass baby fear. I was so excited and hopefull then got terrified for awhile. I am back to hopeful and excited! I wish the same for you too! Baby yourself and your baby!
