Default First OB appt tomorrow.

Wow, first off, congrats to Sherry7. which i just read is preggo right along with me.. I am just a tad behind!

Well tomorrow I will be 7 weeks 5 days pregnant and I will be having my first OB appt. It is planning to be a long day with 1.5 hours dedicated to the NP and paperwork. Then off to the doctor. I have NO idea what to expect. I am hoping for a U/S or some sorta thing to hear the babies heartbeat. I have waited 15 years for this.. battling PCOS and obesity to get the test to even say pregnant.. so i am just hoping for healthy baby!!

Just thought i'd update ya on the situation. So far Morning sickness.. more like queeziness is mild. I do have phengran from wls that i have been cleared to use.. i have only used 1 or 2. I get lightheaded at times. Diet is crazy.. I want to eat eat eat sometimes, but the baby doesnt seem to like the healthy stuff. I tried cheese and some meats.. and its horrible. But yet a cupcake seems to soothe. My pouch and this baby do not agree!!

Well i hopefully will post some good results from tomorrows tests and stuff.
Hugs to all TT'ers!

Thank you Heather, and congrats to you too!

The ultrasound really depends on your doctor. I went for one a day or two after my 1st appointment, just to confirm viability and fetal age, make sure it wasn't ectopic, etc. If he doesn't offer one, be sure to ask...all they can say is no, right?

One thing you might want to discuss with your doc is your vitamins. The prenatal vitamins are humongous, and my doc was concerned that I wouldn't absorb them properly. Plus, I was concerned because the prenatals contain ferrous sulfate iron (which is the kind that totally plugs me up). I prefer to take carbonyl iron instead which is gentler. There actually are chewable prenatals out there, but the iron problem still existed. Anyway...he cleared to stay on my 2 regular chewable multi-vits per day (Bariatric Advantage, Celebrate, etc), plus my carbonyl iron that I already take, plus over-the-counter folic acid pills, plus my normal Calcium Citrate tablets. So basically, it's all my same routine, except for the added folic acid pills.

BTW, I was given a really good book that I highly recommend. It's called "What to Expect When You're Expecting". The paperback version is only around $10 on Amazon.com.

Good luck at your appointment tomorrow!

Also at 7 / 8 weeks it's too early to actually hear a heartbeat with most dopplers. If you can get an u/s they can see it, but I know we couldn't pick it up on the doppler until 11 weeks and on.

Don't be afraid to play with your vitamins. I don't absorb any of the ones I was taking early on and we switched some around, added others, took some away....still working with my iron, but that's another story.

Hi ya! Sherry.. i have luckily been on prenatals since surgery. Mainly because I lost so much blood aftewards, and i needed the iron. So we are good there. The doc seemed pretty good and understands alot of what I will have challenges with.. and they listened well when we discussed pass blood work and is actually checking my questionable readings from 4 months ago. I did get a U/S.. and yes we saw the little heart beat. They didnt do anything audio like.. but i didnt care. We were just so happy to see the baby is healthy and happy we hope. Its just such a cool thing since its never been me in that position before. And omg.. hubby's face was priceless. Here is the pic!

Congrats again on the little one. The 1st u/s is the most exciting and a scarey thing. I was so scared something would be wrong but so happy to see my little baby. I'm sure there will be more u/s as the baby gets bigger. You should do a 4D one when you get up there in weeks. THey are awesome. When are you due????

Yes, the 4 d Ultrasound is on our list of things to do. I heard between 24-28 weeks is best.. anything after they are too big. But yea i still got time for that.
I am due 6/16.. though the baby is measuring a tad bigger at 6/13.. close enough!

What a cute little bean! Just a tip: if they gave you your ultrasound pics on that slick paper, be sure to scan them ASAP and print out a copy on real photographic paper. It's a heat sensitive paper, and it will degrade over time or if it gets too hot. You definitely don't want to lose those 1st baby pics!

The place where I go for my ultrasounds actually does a 3D/4D one for free...once you're in your 3rd trimester. I was surprised to hear that, since many places charge a couple of hundred bucks for the same thing. They give me a CD (with picture and video) every time I go as well. I'm so glad that my OB's office recommended this place, instead of going to the hospital like I'd originally planned to. I'm psyched to be getting the 3D/4D ultrasound at no charge.

Heather, are you taking DHA supplements yet? Some OB's recommend them, but some don't consider it essential. They're supposed to help with baby's brain development. Some prenatal vitamins have them (packaged as a prenatal and then the gel-cap DHA), or you can buy them separately. Expecta is the brand I'm using, and they're around $11 at Walmart for a 30 day supply. Basically, it's the same stuff that we would normally get from eating plenty of fish...but of course plenty of fish isn't recommended now because of the mercury content.

No, i am not taking any additional supplements at this point. Just 2 prenatals that I have been taken all along. Not sure if the bloodwork they did last week will change that or not. But i suppose it wouldnt be a bad thing to do anyways.
Yea i haven't heard of anyone that does it free... atleast that the OB mentions. The one thats only $80 is with the hospital that they are affiliated with. I have a friend at work who just had a baby a few months back and said she knows where you can get them really cheap. So I will prolly hit her up for that information later.
I am so glad the last few days I have felt sooo good. No longer in that hazy tired feeling non stop. Feels almost like the old Heather.. just a little more bloated.. LOL Feels super good! But i am still going to start working 6 day weeks starting this next week. I am doing it to make lighter days overall. I have to keep working 45 hours financially.. .. so this is an easy way to cope.
