Default Sherry7's pregnancy blog

Hello all! Life has throw me a couple of curve balls in the last 3 weeks or so, and I haven't been on TT nearly as much as usual. Anyway, I thought I'd try "consolidating" a bit, and create an informal pregnancy blog here.

To start off, I'll just copy and paste my original post from 9-24-09:

Oh, I forgot the announcement....I'm pregnant!

I'm not very far along...just 5 1/2 weeks right now. We found out last week, and as can be imagined, I'm super excited! My only "baby" graduated high school this Spring, and he started college last month...how's that for an age gap?

I'm scared silly of having a miscarriage, especially since I fall into the Advanced Maternal Age category. Gosh, that term makes me feel old...like I need to buy a walker and some Depends.

So, the weight loss is on hold for the meantime...although I only had 1 to 3 lbs left until goal, depending on the day. It's funny, I've been so thrilled to finally be skinny, but now I'm anxiously awaiting a baby bump.

p.s. To anyone who is friends with me on Facebook, please don't mention this there...I still have quite a few family members who we haven't told yet, who are also Facebook friends.

Well...that post was almost 4 weeks ago. Life has been crazy since then, and I haven't been on TT much. 3 or 4 days after that post, my mom got rushed to the hospital my ambulance, and then was transferred to a larger hospital by helicopter. Needless to say, life has been crazy since then...with working full time, and then traveling to the hospital every evening, which was a 2 hour round trip drive. So, the last month has just flown by, even though it sometimes feels like it's been going on forever. On a positive note, she was recently transferred to a rehab facility, which is much closer to home...so things are starting to normalize a bit. (Mom had a Grand Mal seizure and a moderate stroke...she's starting to improve, but will be in the rehab facility for at least another 4 weeks.)

Anyway...I probably haven't been taking the best care of myself with everything going on with my mom. I definitely haven't been getting quite enough sleep at night, although I'm now taking a 25 minute nap everyday during my lunch break. (Cat naps are great!)

My morning sickness (really just severe queasiness with quite a few mad dashes to the bathroom) is pretty much gone. I've figured out that if I eat a heavier breakfast, I don't get sick. On that note, I'm eating like a pig...for me anyway, lol. I've only gained 1 lb so far though, so I guess the extra calories are being well used. I'm constantly hungry...like stomach growling hungry. I eat and 2 hours later, my stomach is rumbling.

My jeans are getting tight..even though I've only gained 1 lb. At only 9 1/2 weeks, I think it's more bloat than baby though, lol.

Hmmm, other than that it's just the normal pregnancy stuff....my boobs are KILLING me and I think I'll end up resembling Dolly Parton by the end of the 9 months, lol. I'm dog tired...a result of both the pregnancy, and running myself ragged visiting the hospital. I can't remember the last time I exercised, with everything going on with my mom. Does running to the bathroom multiple times a day count as exercise?

Oh, and it's no longer a "secret". Even though we had planned on NOT telling family/friends/co-workers until after 12 weeks, those plans went out the window.

Here's my ultrasound pics that were done 2 weeks ago, so I'm sure the baby looks like more than a kidney bean by this point, ha ha. I got to see and hear the heartbeat, which was so awesome. I'm scheduled to go in for a 1st trimester screening (nuchal ultrasound and a ton of bloodwork) in about 2 1/2 weeks.

Oh, I forgot to add....

I've made another MAJOR change to my life recently. Well, it might not seem major to most of you, but for me, if definitely was.

Yesterday, I traded in my beloved sports car on a "soccer mom SUV". I truly loved that car...it was a Crossfire SRT-6, with a hand built Mercedes Benz AMG engine, with 330 horsies, and a super charger. Sigh. But my days of driving 125+ MPH on my way to work are gone anyway. After I found out I was pregnant, I couldn't in good conscience drive fast anymore, so all of the fun was pretty much gone out of the car...know what I mean? Plus, try as I might, I couldn't figure out how to put a car seat in a 2 seater sports car, lol.

Still, I almost cried when I dropped my car off at the dealership yesterday. He only has 16,200 miles on him, and will hopefully give someone else many years of driving pleasure. Yes, I know I seem overly sentimental about a car...but I'll blame it on the pregnancy hormones. But really, I'm unlike most women....I've always viewed my car as an extension of myself.

I keep telling myself that I gave up my car for a really good reason...a baby is DEFINITELY better than a sports car! Still, I think I'm going to be a little sad about it for awhile.

In tribute...a picture of my former "mid-life crisis" car, and a picture of my new "soccer mom" car (a 2009 Kia Borego SUV...yes, it is as big as it looks, lol.)

Sherry, I missed your pregnancy post, so congratulations on the exciting news. I know I don't have to tell you this, but take care of your body, drink your water, take your vitamins and eat.

Sherry, you know I share your sentiment about cars. I would truly mourn losing my WRX and if I had a Crossfire, I'd be bawling my eyes out for months. I totalled my first WRX in a parking lot and it was nearly 2 years before we got another one. We couldn't stand the 'practical' car any longer.

But life throws us those monkey wrenches and in your case, you are being a great mom. Your new Kia will give you a lot more room for that new little one and will give you the opportunity to have a lot of fun days to come. Embrace and enjoy your new life. When that little one goes off the college, you can think about getting that sports car again.

But take care of yourself. Make sure you get enough rest. You need to nurture that little life inside you.

P.S. My other vehicle is a Toyota Sienna minivan (which I rarely get to drive anymore because my daughter loves it). I've got to have some practicality in my life and it sure comes in handy for moving my kids' furniture in and out (yes, my oldest is moving back home next month, sigh).

Thank you Pudding. Other than not getting quite enough sleep, I'm doing pretty good taking care of myself so far.

Thank you Jo. Honestly, I don't think I'll get over that car until I actually have the new baby in my arms.

Of all of the people here on TT, I knew you'd understand about my car Vikki. Like I said to Jo, I think I'm going to mourn that car until the moment that I actually have the new baby in my arms.

You totalled your WRX in a parking lot? Good grief...how on earth did you manage to do that?

Thank you Vetty! You're right about being healthy...I am truly healthier now than I've been since my 20's.

Sherry, I totally understand about your car! My ex and I sold our '69 camaro convertible when the doc told us my son was gonna be twins. (He was just a 10 lb baby is all- lol)

That thing was a beautiful, blue ribbon winning car.

Then, we sold our 66 Nova SS for the down payment of our first house. So.. I can totally relate.

I currently have a car that looks practical but is sooo much fun to drive- a VW with a 5 speed turbo Fun.

A quick note for today:

Have y'all heard of Freecycle.org? It's a Yahoo group where people post things that they're giving away, or things they want. Most places in the US have a Freecycle group.

Anyway, a few days ago, a lady posts that she is giving away some baby books. (What To Expect When You're Expecting, and a couple of baby name books.) I emailed her, and said I'd like to have them if they were still available. A couple of days ago, she emailed me back, and I arranged to pick up the books this evening. When I got there, she looked me up and down, and mentioned that we were about the same size, and did I possibly want a couple of bags of maternity clothes?

So, she goes back into her house, and comes out a minute later with 2 HUGE kitchen trash bags of maternity clothes. I went through it when I got home, and everything looks new and is in great condition (plus some expensive brand names!). Most of it is summer clothes...which is good though because we're going on a 2 week cruise in January, and I was really worried about what I was going to wear in a hot climate since I'll definitely be grown out of my normal clothes by then. It will be warm enough to wear the summer stuff here in PA for my last 5 or 6 weeks of pregnancy. There's a few pair of pants that I can wear this winter here in cold PA, and a couple of long sleeved shirts as well. I think I'm pretty much set on maternity clothes now, except I need a few more long sleeved shirts, and I'm definitely going to need larger bras VERY soon. Oh, and I'll have to find a bigger bathing suit for when we go on the cruise in January.

I was dreading spending tons of money on maternity clothes that I'd only wear for a few months, so getting these was a blessing. I want to take some time off work after the baby gets here (1 year preferred, but it will probably end up only being 6 or 7 months), so the money I saved on clothes might keep me at home for a couple of weeks longer.
